Today I got a call from this number, and the person said I was under investigation for tax fraud going back three years and that I supposedly owed £1,527. He gave me a case number 892241765 and also mentioned a warrant number 248/1965. I didn’t freak out or anything, just thanked him politely and said I’d check it out. The call stopped there and didn’t go on. Honestly, he sounded pretty genuine, so I could see how someone might get worried over it!

Just like many folks have mentioned, I received a rather alarming call suggesting I was being scrutinised by the tax man. They threatened that failing to press 1 would lead to my arrest! Quite a daunting experience, I must say.

If you get any dodgy emails or phone calls, you can report them to HMRC's phishing squad at this email: [email protected] Also, if you receive any sketchy texts, just forward them to 60599. Keep in mind, your network might charge you for sending the text. Remember, HMRC won’t ever alert you about tax refunds or ask for your bank details via email or texts. If they do need to reach you about something private, they’ll either ring you up or send a letter.

So, this number rang me up today saying the police were gona arrest me in less than an hour if I dont pay £2166 right away on the phone. I told them to go ahead and send the police if that’s true, and they just hung up on me. These scammers prey on folks who get scared of stuff like this. ‪0300 200 3722‬ Just got a robo call, sounded exactly like the one others mentioned, saying it was HMRC about some tax fraud warrant! I pressed 1 and ended up talking to a guy with an Asian accent, who immediately asked for my personal info (didn’t give it, obviously). I asked what the issue was and how come he didn’t know my name or address. Told him to send proof by mail. Then, guess what? He just cut me off! Definitely going to BLOCK this number.
