Got a letter today 26/11/2018 saying i owe national insurance class 2 contributions from a few years back. I called the number (probably not the smartest move) and it sounded really proper, but then i looked up the number here. Checked my personal tax account on the hmrc site and it says i owe nothing, so i’m convinced this is a scam. Horrified to think how much my phone bill might end up being!!! Don’t pay anything!!!

Total rip-off and honestly, what a load of rubbish! The HMRC are just out to pinch your cash, hardly ever give anything back, and when they do, it turns up in the post with hardly any clue as to why they messed it up in the first place! I got a couple of emails saying I was owed a tax refund from HMRC. Being retired from the civil service, I know they always send letters through the post, never by email. Do not even think about replying to these emails as you could easily end up losing cash from your bank accounts - these folks behind the messages are proper scammers. Any messages pretending to be from Government departments should be ignored as official stuff always comes by Royal Mail right to your door, never by email. Stay cautious, stay clever, and let’s get rid of these nasty pests online because the law is bound to catch them sooner or later.
