I just got a call from this number, and when I told the woman I’d been warned to be careful with calls like this, she kept pushing me to look up the number online. I muted the phone to chat with my partner, and by the time I unmuted, she had already hung up.

This number has nothing to do with HMRC at all, it’s just some scam trying to phish for your details. Best not to pick up or share any personal info. If you’re unsure, just head over to the official GOV.UK site and find the genuine HMRC contact number to check with them. You can also report the call there, they have info on how to flag phishing attempts.

Got a ring earlier saying they were from HMRC, but sounded totally dodgy to me. Pretty sure the real HMRC wouldn’t be so rude or pushy :p

totally caught off guard by these muppets using a robocall with an american accent. i got curious and pressed 1, hoping for something different, but nope, still an american voice, though this time it was a real person speaking. then i got passed to someone with an accent i couldn’t even place. i told them straight to f### off and ended the call. if you’re gonna fake calls claiming to be from her majesty’s customs, at least make it sound british! i flagged it as dangerous because it felt like a scam to scare folks into paying for some made-up issue.
