Got a call from someone claiming to be the HMRC. They told me there was an arrest warrant out for me because supposedly I hadn’t paid my taxes. I was told to rush and pay about £3786 straight away using some kind of HMRC tax deposit machine to avoid getting arrested. Seemed really fishy to me.

Luckily, I’ve got call protect - it’s a brilliant tool! I reckon they’ll just switch to different numbers once this one’s blocked. My tip? Today, on 1st September 2017, I got a call from this number claiming to be from HMRC saying I had legal action against me. The voice was automated and sounded like an American. I hung up right away as it felt off. At first, I was quite shaken up, but after checking this website, I realised it was just a scam. Even now, it leaves me feeling pretty unsettled. Looks like this number is still ringing around, I just got hit with the same "HMRC lawsuit" scam. Reading through the comments here, you’d think the scammers would’ve been nabbed ages ago. Guess the officials aren’t exactly rushing to sort this out, so the scams just carry on. Can these fraudsters steal enough cash and vanish before anyone catches them? You won't believe it but I got a call from Her Majesty's RC. Honestly, it feels a bit worrying, maybe even dangerous, especially for older people who get these recorded calls. It’s baffling that the regulators don’t step in to stop this. They clearly don’t care or just don’t give a damn! If they did, something would’ve been done by now.

I got a call from this number today, and the person actually knew my name and where I lived. They asked me to confirm my date of birth, but I told them if they already knew who I was, then surely they had all my info, so why should I give any more to them? They then said they couldn't explain why they were calling without me confirming my identity first. I just told them to stop and that I'd check the HMRC website myself to find out what's going on. Today, 4th August 2017 around 11:05 am, I got a call from what I think was my ex director's old number. I'm registered on the TPS as well. An automated voice was going on about some HMRC lawsuit being underway. Figured it was a scam and ended the call straight away.

Yeah, you’re right, it’s just a tiny difference from the actual HMRC number. These scoundrels only want a number, like for blind allowance or something. If you call that number, they’ll almost surely ask for your national insurance number straightaway. Don’t hand over any details to that number! The talk about lawsuits is just rubbish, meant to scare older or vulnerable folks. It’s really pathetic, no morals at all. But karma’s a pain, and they’ll get what’s coming to them. I called this number to see who was on the other end - I suspected it wasn't really HMRC, and sure enough, the bloke who picked up claimed he was, saying he’d look into my file to prove I wasn’t facing any legal action. I wasn’t having any of it and told him I’d ring the official number from my actual tax return instead. Just like others have mentioned, I got a call from an American woman claiming I was about to be sued. Then some guy with an Indian accent read out a script, saying I owed £420 (not much really!). Apparently, a cop would be at my door in half an hour if I didn’t sort it out. They said HMRC are now teaming up with ASDA so you could buy a gift card there to pay the supposed tax, but they warned me not to let ASDA know it was for HMRC. Honestly, what a ridiculous scam. Do these people actually fool anyone? I ended up keeping them on the phone for a solid 20 minutes just messing around.

Got a call earlier today, 1st August 2017. Left a voicemail from a woman with an American accent who said she was called Jackie and claimed to be my case worker. She didn’t explain what case or which organisation she was from. She gave me two different numbers to ring back and said each one twice before ending with a polite “have a nice day”. Didn’t bother returning the call and blocked the number straight away. I’m in my mid seventies and retired, so these pointless calls don’t scare me, just annoy me because they waste my time.

They also use your full name when they get in touch. And usually, if they really need you, they send a letter through the post, not just a quick call. Definitely sounded dodgy to me.

Got a call from someone named Peter Wilson supposedly from HMRC, yeah right! I gave 'em a ring back all careful but they were straight asking me for my national insurance number. Got a random call on my mobile from some guy named Peter Wilson, said he was from a call centre. I knew instantly it was a scam. I just don’t get why the phone company lets these people have these numbers and doesn’t do anything with the police. They even called my mum on her landline about a supposed tax debt - she’s 77 and hasn’t earned a penny in decades. Absolute lowlifes, and honestly, the ones meant to stop this nonsense are worse than the scammers themselves.

Got a call this morning around 10:50, didn’t recognise the number so left it. Shortly after, got a voicemail claiming HMRC was suing me. Proper scary stuff. They gave two phone numbers to call back. I didn’t bother, instead looked up the number on a reverse phone site and it turned out to be a scam. Thought about how many elderly folks might actually ring them back. I got a voicemail saying there’s some lawsuit thing against me, telling me to ring two different numbers - but they said them so fast I couldn’t catch them properly. No official government office would ever get in touch like that. I looked up one of the 0300 numbers they gave, and it’s actually linked to benefits for blind people. I’m not blind and don’t claim any benefits, so I’m pretty sure this is a scam.

I got a call from an automatic system claiming to be from HMRC saying I had some kind of legal case against me. They told me to press 1 if I wanted to speak to someone. The bloke who came on named himself Eric Brown, but he spoke with a strong Indian/Pakistani accent. He tried asking for my NHS number, which I wasn’t about to give out. When I asked for his direct office number and to verify his name properly, he just ended the call straight away.
