I received a rather dodgy call just the other day and it was obvious from the get-go that it was a scam. I told them to get lost and that I’d see them in court, then I swiftly ended the call. Thankfully, I’ve got Call Protect, which is an absolute lifesaver! Received a rather unsettling call from this number today, 1st September 2017. They claimed to be from HMRC, alleging that a lawsuit was pending against me. Honestly, as soon as I realised it was an automated message delivered in a rather dodgy American accent, I hung up immediately. It did send a shiver down my spine at first, but I’m grateful for this website as it has helped me see it was nothing but a scam. Still, I can’t shake off this uneasy feeling. With my mental health struggles, I find myself rather anxious... really wish I hadn’t picked up the phone.

Looks like this number is still ringing around, I just got hit with the same "HMRC lawsuit" scam. Reading through the comments here, you’d think the scammers would’ve been nabbed ages ago. You won't believe it but I got a call from Her Majesty's RC. Honestly, it feels a bit worrying, maybe even dangerous, especially for older people who get these recorded calls. Yeah, you’re right, it’s just a tiny difference from the actual HMRC number. These scoundrels only want a number, like for blind allowance or something. If you call that number, they’ll almost surely ask for your national insurance number straightaway. Don’t hand over any details to that number! I called this number to see who was on the other end - I suspected it wasn't really HMRC, and sure enough, the bloke who picked up claimed he was, saying he’d look into my file to prove I wasn’t facing any legal action. I wasn’t having any of it and told him I’d ring the official number from my actual tax return instead. Just like others have mentioned, I got a call from an American woman claiming I was about to be sued. Then some guy with an Indian accent read out a script, saying I owed £420 (not much really!). Apparently, a cop would be at my door in half an hour if I didn’t sort it out. They said HMRC are now teaming up with ASDA so you could buy a gift card there to pay the supposed tax, but they warned me not to let ASDA know it was for HMRC. Honestly, what a ridiculous scam. Do these people actually fool anyone? I ended up keeping them on the phone for a solid 20 minutes just messing around.

Got a call earlier today, 1st August 2017. Left a voicemail from a woman with an American accent who said she was called Jackie and claimed to be my case worker. She didn’t explain what case or which organisation she was from. She gave me two different numbers to ring back and said each one twice before ending with a polite “have a nice day”. I received an unexpected call on my mobile from an Asian gentleman identifying himself as Peter Wilson, representing a call centre. It didn’t take me long to realise it was a scam. It’s baffling how the mobile provider permitted this lot to have access to such numbers without any checks in place. They even managed to ring my elderly mother on her landline, concerning a fictitious tax bill! She’s 77 and hasn’t been in employment for half a century. It's absolutely disgraceful! The fraudsters are the lowest of the low, yet the agencies responsible for tackling these shenanigans seem to be even worse. It’s infuriating!

I received a rather dubious call the other day, purporting to be from HMRC, claiming that there was some sort of lawsuit filed against me. The automated voice prompted me to press 1 to speak with a representative. When I did, the chap on the other end introduced himself as Eric Brown and had an accent reminiscent of South Asia. He requested my National Health number, but I firmly declined to provide it. Curious about his legitimacy, I asked for his direct phone number and to verify his name, at which point he abruptly ended the call. Quite the shifty business, I must say!
