Looks like this is the genuine number for HMRC Income Tax questions. If they suddenly ring you out of the blue, don’t share any personal info. Instead, hang up and ring HMRC directly using the number listed on the official GOV.UK site.

I got calls from two different numbers that, when I looked them up, showed as HMRC, but these scammers are definitely getting sneaky! I spoke to my accountant who advised me not to answer or give any details - it’s definitely a scam. He said they’d already messaged HMRC and got confirmation. The caller said they'd had a call asking for info but weren’t sure it was proper, then asked me to ring back and give my national insurance number!

I received a letter from what seemed like a legit source saying I owed a small tax sum, and it included this number. I checked online but couldn’t find anything, so I reckon it’s a scam. It really looks like the usual letters I get from them though. The letter is dated 22nd December, yet the cheque they mentioned (about some mistake from 2019) still hasn’t arrived! It even has the calculations on it. If this is a fake (which I’m pretty sure it is), loads of people might fall for it!

These folks said they were from HMRC, saying my partner had done some tax dodging, all through a robo call. What they didn’t know is that these exact scammers tried the same trick on my own phone not too long ago. I was told that if HMRC really had an issue, they’d never ring you up like that, it’d always come in a letter. Thankfully, my partner hung up before giving any info away. Even though that number is a legit HMRC one, if you get a call from it and feel suspicious, just hang up, check the line's clear, and ring HMRC back using the number on gov.uk. If it’s really HMRC, they won’t mind at all - they actually prefer you to be cautious and feel secure.

I reckon this is some kind of scam, loads of calls coming from UK numbers but based in Southern Ireland. When I pick up, there’s just silence or a quick chat with someone giving financial advice. Weird thing is, the caller seemed to know my name. Totally agree with others, it’s a bit spooky.

Even though the number seems to be registered to HMRC, it’s clearly being faked by some really dodgy scammers pretending to be them. They try to scare you with threats about tax fraud and legal trouble. If you play along, they push you to pay off fake debts by sending money or buying gift cards they say they need. If this number pops up, just end the call straight away, then once you’re sure the line’s free, ring HMRC on a proper official number to check.

The caller claimed to be from HMRC and was really pushy, even threatening me with legal trouble and court if I didn’t pay up. The line sounded dodgy, with foreign accents, and they told me to shut up and just listen. After looking up the number, I found out it was being used by scammers, so I didn’t bother calling back.

These scam artists are faking this real hmrc number. if you get calls from it, report them straight to the police via action fraud. just google 'action fraud', find the 'police.uk' website, click on the 'reporting' section and submit it as phishing. honestly, this is the only way we'll eventually stop these scammers. simply blocking or ignoring the calls won't do anything to put an end to these criminals who make a fortune off vulnerable people.
