Totally rubbish calls like this just scare people, best just block and report if you can. Don’t fall for what the message says, there’s probably a nasty cost involved if you do. Just ignore it, it’s nothing but disgusting spam.

You're right mate, this could really freak out older folks. The legit HMRC contact for us to ring is 0300 200 3300, but they don't actually ring us from that number. Like I mentioned earlier, scammers are cloning and spoofing numbers that look almost identical, changing the last few digits all the time - like 3173, 3175, 2908. It's an endless scam, so watch out, people. Any calls starting with 0300 200 are pretty much dodgy, best to assume they're scammers.

This number called me as well. It was the usual scam, asking me to hit 1 if I wanted to reply. Nope, I didn’t fall for it! Honestly, the chance that I’m being looked into for tax fraud is pretty much zero. Still, it was pretty irritating to get that call, and I can imagine it’s really distressing for others. This needs to be cracked down on quickly!
