Got a call and assumed it was an 0800 number, only found out when they said they were from HMRC saying I owed loads of money. I got into an argument with the caller, ended up swearing at them and then just hung up. This is the second time I’ve had a scam call pretending to be HMRC, the other one came from a 0200 number. Just a heads up, watch out for these!

This number is actually linked to River Kids but has been faked! River Kids focuses on supporting children in West Lothian who are struggling, whether it’s due to poverty, homelessness, or extra needs that make life tougher for them. They offer help either straight to the families or work with groups like Social Services, NHS, Youth Inclusion, Domestic Abuse support, Surestart, Salvation Army, and other local charities to make sure these kids get the assistance they need.

Some bloke spoke really seriously claiming he was from HMRC, said I was being investigated and if I didn’t hit 1, they’d send a warrant to arrest me. I just laughed and told him to get lost. Honestly, who do these lot think they are making calls like that? I can totally understand how older folks or anyone more vulnerable might get scared by this. Total scam, no doubt about it.

Lol, got a ring from this number just now. I hit 1 to check what was going on! They asked me a few questions but I gave the wrong answers on purpose 😉 then they threatened I’d be arrested unless I paid up in 30 minutes to settle out of court. What a muppet! Seriously, what’s wrong with folks these days? I’m still convinced cash is the way forward. Since everything turned digital, there’s been way more dodgy people trying to pinch your money. Old-fashioned cash in your pocket all the way!

Scammers have been faking this number and we've reported it to BT, who have now confirmed it's being used for fraudulent activity. We're a tiny charity and have been flooded with calls, which is really interrupting the important work we do. These criminals used the number for a couple of days, but we're not sure how many people they tried to contact. If you get a call saying to get in touch, please don't ring us back. We're currently working with BT to fix this mess. Any calls will just ring out as we won’t be picking up. We’ve even had to take off the answerphone because they were trying to hack it to grab information.
