Just so you know, this is the official HMRC inheritance tax number, it's not some dodgy scam.

Received an automated call purportedly from HMRC. It rattled off information regarding taxes and employed some rather menacing language, suggesting I be transferred to another department. Decided to cut the call short.

That number looks legit at first, but keep in mind they might be faking it when they call you. It’s pretty easy to make your phone show a phony caller ID. Also, don't rely on stuff like 1471 or pressing 1 to return the call - scammers can mess with those too. Just be careful with any calls back to that number.

I reckon the number looks legit, but if someone does call you from it, they might just be faking it. It’s pretty simple these days to make a number show up differently on your caller ID. What’s the deal with those codes like 1471 or pressing 1 after a call to ring back? Could they be used by scammers as well? Just makes me wonder if you can really trust what shows up on your phone.

I rang this number today after seeing it on a official probate form, turns out it’s the helpline for HRM stuff. Not too sure if scammers use this number to fake a call but if you call them yourself, it’s definitely genuine. Just thought i’d share my experience for anyone wondering.

Got a robo call saying I’m reported for tax fraud and to press 1 or else they’d send a warrant for my arrest. What a load of rubbish! No way I’m falling for that.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from HMRC saying if I didn't press 1 they'd send a warrant for my arrest right away. Turns out the number is linked to HMRC probate scams - they’re using a legit HMRC number to trick people. Total scam!
