He said his name was Frank and claimed to work for a Computer Maintenance firm. He told me that "error logs" from email accounts were building up on my computers and causing them to slow down, and offered to guide me through locating these files and fixing the issue. He insisted it wasn’t a virus. I cut him off quickly, telling him I suspected a scam and if this was a real problem, it would be covered by legit news outlets. Definitely a scam targeting vulnerable folks - best to steer clear and report them.

Someone rang claiming to be from BT OpenReach, saying there was an issue with my phone line. I never reported any fault and everything seems fine on my end. After failing to answer an incoming call, I decided to return the call. Unfortunately, there was no response. It's alarming how scam calls have become so prevalent nowadays. One would hope that companies like BT or other similar providers could easily track and prevent such activities. Everyday, vulnerable individuals fall prey to these scams and suffer from losing their hard-earned savings. To make matters worse, the banks seem unwilling to reimburse these victims. It seems baffling that the banks cannot trace the money and take appropriate action. This kind of wrongdoing is criminal and should be thoroughly investigated!

Got a dodgy call about shares they said I had. I've had these calls in the past and they always want your private info. From what I've read online, if you keep talking to them, they try to trick you into putting cash into some escrow thing.

Answered the landline but stayed silent. Could hear some faint noise in the background, then after around 10 seconds they just hung up without anyone speaking. Dialled 1471 to see the number and googled it, which lead me here. These calls have popped up now and then over the years. They usually say they’re from Microsoft or BT. I always humour them a bit but never share any personal or computer info. They catch on pretty quick when you’re onto their tricks and then they end the call.

Got a call from an Asian call centre on my landline around 2:30 today, claimed they’d found viruses in an email I supposedly sent and it was traced back to my laptop. I played along and he asked me to hit the windows key and enter a code. Told him I didn’t know where the windows key was (I’m on a MacBook Air) and he still tried to get me to type a code (which I didn’t). He said the code was invalid, told me to press control alt delete and shut down some programs. I kept going with it and then just said I’d take it to Apple in the morning. He swore at me and then hung up.

Supposedly, Microsoft has informed me that they are unable to update my software. They have requested me to open my computer for them. I have received two phone calls from them already. During the first call, I mentioned that I had lent my laptop to a friend. Today, when they called again, I informed them that I have not yet received my laptop back from my friend. Got a call from an Asian guy who called himself ‘Robert’ (really?!). He was going on about some issue with my computer and kept asking ‘do you get it?’ like 3 or 4 times during the chat. In the end, I told him to stop talking rubbish, told him to jog on and hung up. This number tried ringing me on Friday 12th July but I missed it. Loads of people - at least 14 - reported this same number just that day, wonder how many didn’t bother reporting it? Seems like they’re still at it from last week. Proper muppets!!

Got another call again, must be some sort of harassment Friday! The best way to wind them up is just to keep chatting away, mess about with them for a bit. Some bloke with an Indian accent claiming to be Joseph (sure, like) rang from a so-called Microsoft tech team, chatting rubbish about my PC being hacked and asking me to have pen and paper ready.
