I was just riding as a passenger when the phone rang and the driver picked it up, I whispered that it must be one of those spam calls, then the person on the other end yelled some curse and hung up. Got a call from some "Homecare" lady with an Indian accent saying I was owed a refund for overpaying on white goods. She wanted my bank account number and sort code (didn’t give it). I kept saying 'hello' and eventually she kept repeating the same thing and seemed to hear me. I asked 'how can I help?' and she paused before saying 'you called me'. I laughed and said 'no, you called me' and then she hung up on me. Today at about 1.38 pm I got a call from 02045 204986. The guy said his name was Kevin from Homecare and that I was owed £119 back on a home appliance plan. I told him I don’t have any such agreement, so how could there be a refund? He then asked if the postcode he mentioned was my address. I just said nothing after that until he ended the call. Working from home means my landline is a backup way for people to reach me if my mobile fails, so I feel like I gotta pick up. Got a silent call today, but these lot ring me about 3 times daily about some washer insurance. First couple of rings I told them I’m not bothered. Now they just stay quiet on the line then hang up. Pretty clear it’s a scam to me.

At about 09:30 on 10/03/22, I got a phone call on my landline from the number 020 4520 4986. The guy said he was Bob from Homecare and said I was due a refund of £119.00 that had been wrongly taken for a washing machine warranty. After I confirmed I was still living at 12 The Byeways, he said he’d put me through to someone else. But before that, I asked how much the original price was. He said roughly £150.00. Then I asked when the payment was made and he just hung up straight away.

Got a call from someone with an Indian accent, asking if I was speaking to my husband. I asked who it was, and he started talking about a washing machine or something. My elderly stepmum who suffers from dementia has unfortunately been caught up in this scam and ended up sharing her bank info. Ironically, she got duped with some white goods insurance scam a couple of weeks back and honestly believed this was a refund. They requested her account number and sort code, knowing most of her details already. We contacted the bank and they said no money has been taken yet, but I’m a bit sceptical about that - why else would they need just those details? We’ll be keeping a very close eye on her bank account from now on.

Received a dodgy phone call where the caller attempted to extract my banking information under the pretext of issuing a refund. I played along for a good while before introducing them to Inspector Sharon from the fraud division! Strangely enough, they decided to cut the conversation short after that. Quite amusing, really!
