Then they somehow cloned that number and called me back, making it seem like the same one was ringing again. Obviously, it wasn’t really HMRC. Don’t trust these calls, ring HMRC yourself and don’t share any details.

Got a call from this number earlier. Wasn’t planning to pick up but thought it might be someone I was waiting on from London. I answered and as soon as I did, the caller just hung up. Luckily, after checking this site, I’ve blocked them now. They do keep switching numbers though, so watch out! I’ve also had a few texts supposedly from HMRC before, but I know they’d never contact me like that. These scammers are nasty, especially for older folks or those who are more trusting. My tip? Got a call today about some supposed case linked to my national insurance number, yeah right! When I asked a few questions, the guy on the other end, with a thick Indian accent, got all annoyed and threatened that the police would be visiting me. I just told him to come on then. Beware, this is definitely a scam coming out of India. They use technology that makes it look like they’re calling from a UK number when they’re not. My missus just got one of these dodgy calls from them, and they try all sorts of tricks to fish for your personal info. There’s no official Northern Ireland department like they claim - it’s always HMRC or DWP handling these matters. Best thing to do? Just hang up straight away!

You’ll never get a genuine call about your national insurance number, it’s all a load of rubbish! I got a call and they even mentioned some person’s name they were supposedly after. HMRC doesn’t ring you up about this sort of stuff, ever. If there’s an issue, you’ll get a proper letter through the post. Tell your mates about this so they don’t get caught out too.
