I got a call from someone saying they were doing a survey, but it was aimed at older people who get loads of calls like this all the time.

Had a call today from someone claiming to be Opinion 2 Safe. They asked me to verify my postcode and phone number. Thing is, they already had the postcode wrong. When I wouldn’t give them my current postcode and asked them to explain more about the company, they just ended the call on me. Bit dodgy if you ask me.

Rather than getting all riled up, why not take action? First off, make sure to register your UK mobile or landline with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS). Give it a good 28 days, and after that, it becomes illegal for companies to contact you without your specific permission. If you happen to receive a call after that period, simply ask the caller for their company name, let them know you're TPS registered, and that you'll be alerting the ICO and Ofcom. Whether they give you their company name or not, you can still report them to these agencies with just their phone number. This nifty trick should help shield you from genuine UK businesses trying to reach you, although keep in mind that you may still receive some calls. The golden rule? The only things you should say to these callers are: A) "What company are you with?" and B) "I'm TPS registered and will be contacting the relevant authorities." Got a completely silent call today. We’re on the Telephone Preference Service list, so it’s been ages since we had any annoying calls. This one turned out to be some rubbish survey claiming to be for big companies. Honestly, don’t believe a word of it.

There was quite a wait before I finally heard someone on the line, and by that point, I had already hung up. I reckon the delay is due to this phantom number, as it seems to have been rerouted from overseas, coming through the 0203 exchange in London.

Then, just yesterday, I picked up the phone, and wouldn't you believe it, it was her again! She repeated her request, and I once more said, "Apologies, but surveys aren’t our thing, goodbye!" Fast forward to today, and lo and behold, it’s her again, prattling on about a survey. In a moment of exasperation, I shot back, "Look, Mrs Randall has passed away, alright?!" To which she replied, "Are you a relative who can participate in the survey?" I retorted, "No, I'm not. Cheers, goodbye!" This morning, at half past nine, the phone rang again, and guess who? Yes, the same persistent woman. She brought up that elusive survey once more. I reminded her, "I told you yesterday that Mrs Randall is no longer with us!" Her response was just as baffling, "Are you part of the family eligible for the survey?" I couldn’t help but exclaim, "Good grief! Even after I mentioned Mrs Randall's unfortunate passing, you still want the family to weigh in? Do you possess no sense of decency?" Her reply was infuriatingly casual, "It’ll only take a few minutes for a couple of questions." Honestly, these infuriating cold callers are truly testing my patience! That number is a figment of someone's imagination. It seems it was locked away with the entire set of 020 3751 numbers. Quite the scam, I must say.
