I received a call from individuals purporting to be representatives of O2. They insisted they were reaching out to offer me an improved deal. The person on the other end of the line is actually a subcontractor working for BT and O2, so they're not directly representing those companies. They're likely just fishing for new or renewed contracts with BT and O2, which explains their querying for age information (18 and over). I've received numerous calls from them over time, which has been quite irritating. Consequently, I've blocked their number each time, managing to keep my cool without the overblown reactions some folks seem to have shared here.

The person calling said they’re a sub contractor for BT, so they aren’t actually BT themselves - they’re just trying to get people to sign up or renew with BT, which is why they ask if you’re over 18. I’ve had a bunch of calls every now and then, they’re pretty irritating so I just block the number each time. No need for all the freak out or overreactions I’ve read in other comments here.

I've no clue as to who might be behind this number since I refuse to pick up. Interestingly, every time they give me a ring and it registers as a missed call, my mobile displays my remaining credit balance. While no deductions are made, I find it quite peculiar that just a missed call would trigger that information. It's odd because none of the other numbers do the same, apart from a few others like 01612776698, 88, and 81, which I assume are associated with the same firm.

I got a call yesterday, said it was from 02, asking how much I usually put on my pay as you go. I told em I’ve actually got a contract now, and he was like, oh so you changed then, wished me a Merry Christmas and just hung up straight away!! Weird one.

Should you wish to discuss an upgrade or similar, it’s far safer to ring the genuine O2 helpline yourself. Remember, the decision to upgrade should always be in your hands, not dictated by some random caller. A legitimate O2 agent should have access to your account info; so if you request the name of the account holder for your number, they ought to provide it without hesitation, right?

Received a call today on 18/12/17 at about 3.45pm. Didn’t know the number so I just ignored it. Handy to know they put +44 in front of the local 0161 code. If it looks strange and you don’t know it, best not to pick up. Seems like Manchester is a hotspot for these dodgy calls. Absolute muppets!!!

I usually dont pick up calls I dont reconise - if its serious they can just leave a voicemail. They call me all the time, like every day, every week, every month and it’s been like that for ages (You'd think if it was really urgent I'd have got a letter or email by now). Got calls from this number loads in the last couple of weeks, today I finally picked up. Some bloke called Craig claiming he was with O2, asking how much I add to my phone every month. I told him I don't top up since I'm on a contract, and he said he’d "update" it and then hung up. Total muppets!!!

Someone said they were from O2. I phoned O2 afterwards and they told me it was a con. Scary thing is, the person tried to get into my online account. They got to the bit where O2 sent a text code to my phone, and when I questioned them, they clicked on something to trigger another verification message. I reckon they were going to ask me to read out the code in the text, which would let them in. When I pushed back, they just hung up. Why haven’t these scammers been stopped yet? After over 12,000 reports, you’d think the authorities would do something.
