Someone called saying they were from O2 but then switched to saying they worked for Carphone Warehouse. My lad decided to mess with them, asking about a certain colour of iPhone. Suddenly, the caller flipped and started swearing at him, threatening to track him down and do awful things. Proper nasty behaviour from that side.

My phone seems to have a knack for shutting down any dodgy or scammy numbers before I can even see who's calling, so I've got no clue who it might have been this time. However, seeing that so many folks are mentioning it as a Scottish number, I might add that I recently received a call from a blocked number in Glasgow too! If these are genuine calls, there could be quite a few of us with legal matters to discuss! Perhaps we ought to organise a good old BBQ or a meet-up of some kind? How about it? 😂

It seems that this could be O2, and apparently they're offering a 40% discount on bills as a token of gratitude for enduring the pandemic! They claim they just need to verify your bank information and will send you a secure text, but curiously, they can't do this via the email they have on file or through the O2 app. But don't worry, they assure you it's absolutely not a scam! I recently received a typical scam phone call where the caller, masquerading as O2, attempted to lure me in with promises of discounted deals. Their tactic was to fish for a verification code, aiming to gain access to my online O2 account via the password recovery method. It’s a shame, but I must point out that the caller’s accent was of Asian origin - and while it's regrettable, it seems that a small fraction of individuals from regions like Delhi are behind many of these dodgy calls. This unfortunate reality unfortunately breeds distrust toward those accents during unsolicited calls, which is quite unjust to the many decent folks who share that accent (and make up the vast majority). If you encounter a similar situation, I strongly urge you to report it to Ofcom by sending "CALL [the number in question]" to 7726. For instance, you would text CALL 01320444019.

I received a rather alarming phone call recently, asserting that I was being pursued for a tax evasion issue and that an arrest warrant was supposedly in place.
