We've had these dodgy scammers ringing our landline in Lanarkshire repeatedly over the last few weeks. It's baffling how phone companies still let them use their network to try and con folks. If we normal people mess up with our usage or don't pay up, the phone firm is pretty quick to cut us off. So why aren't these scam callers getting the same treatment? Phone providers, seriously, you need to sort this out!

For some strange reason, this number keeps popping up on my phone! And now I think my accounts might be compromised.

Got a call from someone claiming to be BT, told me they were about to cut off my service because of some criminal stuff on my computer. They made it sound real convincing and even made me install an app. It wasn’t until they started asking for my bank info that I realised it was a scam. I immediately ended the call and reported it to the police.

This morning I received a call from this number claiming my appliance insurance was due for renewal, offering me the option to renew for one or three years. When I asked which company they were representing and which appliances were included, the caller said they were from Domestic & General and covered all kitchen devices. I told them I already had insurance through British Gas, and after that, the line went dead, so I just ended the call.

Got a call from a woman with a strange accent, she said she was trying to find Mrs Brocklebank who supposedly lives at 8 Madeira Close in Basingstoke. Bit odd really.

I reckon it’s probably one of those Indian scammers who fake UK local numbers so we’re more tempted to pick up, especially when you can’t see the international dialling code. Loads of others have searched this number recently too, which is a big red flag. Don’t hand over any details to these sketchy callers and make sure you report them to Action Fraud straight away.

There was lots of noise in the background, so I guess it was some sort of call centre. They asked me to verify my name, but the moment I did, they just hung up. I'm kinda worried now if I'll get charged for it or not.

Got a call from a woman with a strong foreign accent, sounded like she was working in some call centre, talking about insurance for kitchen appliances at home. She actually knew my name and where I live, but she had no clue that I don’t have any insurance of that sort. I let her talk for a bit to gather what info she could, then I just hung up before she went any further. The only thing I said was “hello” and asked “who’s calling, please?” Didn’t give her any details or confirm anything. Felt quite dodgy, like a scam, and potentially risky too.
