The call didn’t go on long because they just hung up - I reckon they realised I knew it was dodgy and didn’t want to bother any more.

Got a call from some bloke saying our insurance for the cooker, washing machine and something else had expired. Thing is, we don’t have any of those extended insurances, plus we don’t even have a washing machine! He kept insisting he had the papers right there as evidence. It felt like he was trying to push us into buying more coverage and asking for our bank details or something. Proper dodgy.

Sounded like a call centre to me, but I hung up as soon as I asked what they wanted (with a bit of a cockney twang). Probably just some scammers - I’ve heard that washing machine trick is making the rounds once more!

Called by someone claiming to be from Domestic Appliance in Brighton saying my washing machine insurance needed renewing - which is rubbish as I don’t have any due. They also said I’d paid £120 last year by direct debit to Domestic and General and now they’d taken over the insurance. The woman, Brenda, refused to give me an alternative contact number, just told me it was the one I’d been called from (01273 655208). When I challenged a few bits of what she said, she kept insisting this wasn’t a scam.

I got a call saying my policy needed renewing. When I asked which insurance company it was, they said something called "Domestic Appliances." I told them calmly that I didn’t have any policy like that. Still, they kept asking if I wanted to renew it. Every time I requested the policy number, their address or a contact number, they dodged the questions and just kept asking if I wanted to renew. I started getting a bit more firm with them, but they just pushed harder until eventually they hung up on me.

Got a call from an unknown number saying my order was on hold and I needed to ring customer service. The voice sounded American, maybe from Southern California. I managed to trace the number back to somewhere near Brighton Seafront. I've already reported it to BT's fraud team.

This arvo I got a call from some bloke claiming to be from an insurance company, saying the cover on my washing machine had expired. I told him I never even took out insurance for it, so he must have the wrong person. Funny thing is, he did know my name, but he totally messed up saying it.
