Then they asked if we wanted to renew it. Complete scam, especially as we never had any warranty in the first place and the washing machine’s second-hand anyway.

An American woman attempted to entice me into extending my Skye TV insurance at a reduced rate, despite the fact that I've never once subscribed to Sky TV in my life! She was quite courteous, and I managed to keep her chatting for a good while, which hopefully spared a more susceptible "client" from her grasp. It’s outrageous that these fraudsters, supposedly based in the UK, are not facing legal repercussions instead of pestering unsuspecting citizens.

So this American woman called me up claiming I could renew my Sky TV insurance at some discounted rate - problem is, I’ve never even had Sky TV, never mind any insurance for it. She was pretty polite though, and I ended up stringing her along for ages, hopefully stopping her from bothering someone who actually might fall for it. Honestly, these scammers based in the UK should really be facing legal action instead of pestering innocent people like me.

I received a rather unexpected phone call from a chap named Stanley, who had quite an Asian accent. He was prattling on about my washing machine insurance and claiming he could offer me some savings. When I inquired whether the payment would be taken as a direct debit like my current plan, he abruptly informed me that it would have to be a one-time payment instead. Upon suggesting that I preferred to keep it as a direct debit, he seemed to take umbrage and promptly ended the conversation. Quite the unprofessional encounter, really!

I decided to double-check with the company we actually use and they told me they don’t handle renewals over the phone. So I hung up pretty annoyed, swearing a bit. Got a call from someone with a weird accent saying they were from Sky Protect, asking for my bank info to renew some insurance. I asked a few questions and then they just hung up on me. Now my number's blocked. Thank goodness my 95-year-old mum didn’t pick up, else who knows what could’ve happened!

Got a call telling me to press one because apparently I'd done some tax fraud, and if I didn’t, the police would come and arrest me! It was some kind of recorded message and only went on for about half a minute. I just hung up straight away, but I can imagine how frightening that must sound, especially for anyone who's more vulnerable. I've already reported the whole thing to HMRC.

Got a call from someone overseas, really hard to make out what they were saying. They mentioned something about my washing machine insurance being cheaper now. I asked them to say it again, then told them I wasn’t buying it and ended the call. The cops advise to just listen, don’t answer questions, and hang up straight away. Told him to shove off as I wasn’t having any of it. Pretty sure it was a scam trying to sniff out bank details, so be careful and don’t hand over any info.

I'd already been hit by a scam from that name before, so I called him out on it straight away. He kept denying it was a scam, but I told him there’s no way I have any such contract. Had a call from a guy with a strange accent claiming he was calling on behalf of the firm that handles our washing machine repair insurance. He was offering a deal that seemed ridiculously cheap, way too good to trust. Since we’d already got a renewal letter back in November, I rang our insurance provider to check and they said they didn’t recognise that phone number at all and warned it was probably a scam. So if you get a call from this number, don’t share any personal info or bank details - it’s definitely dodgy.
