Every January, I get a call from a woman asking for someone named Mrs Payne. It isn’t me! I keep telling them to quit with these annoying calls, but they just end the call right after. I can’t block the number either because it says no number’s available, even though 1471 shows the number. Such a pain!

Sounds like these scammers are probably linked to those Utility Cover Ltd people on 01226290167. They use phoney offices and bombard you with cold calls, just like loads of others doing the same dodgy tricks.

Got two calls from this number. The first time I answered, but there was dead silence before they hung up. The second call was someone pushing washing machine insurance. I’m really pleased I looked up this number here beforehand because the lady was pretty persuasive. She didn’t look happy at all when I told her I could buy a brand new washer for less than what she wanted for the insurance.

Got a call about a washing machine warranty. She asked what brand I had, and I said Zanussi. She laughed and said, "Zanussi is owned by Hotpoint," which is rubbish. Someone rang me up saying my washing machine warranty needed renewing, and if I paid for two years upfront, the third year would be free. I told them to send the information by post so I could look it over properly. They insisted I had to buy straight away, which I wasn’t happy with. When I called him out on being a scammer, he just ended the call. I’ve found that when these dodgy people get asked for your policy number, they usually go quiet. Anyone legit would have that info ready.
