Some bloke with an Indian accent rang up claiming to be from Virgin Media, saying my internet was hacked or something. He asked if I’d shared my password with anyone and wanted to know what kind of phone I had. Then he told me to download some app from the App Store. Luckily I sussed it was a scam and hung up straight away!

I suspect it was an autodialler from a call centre, where the operators were too inundated with other calls to connect with me in time. These outfits don’t have a specific individual in their sights; they’re just cycling through a batch of numbers, completely oblivious to who’s on the other end. It’s merely a matter of one number after another being dialled consistently-could be for a single day or stretch on for a week. For heaven's sake, don’t even think about ringing them back!
