I got a dodgy call from someone pretending to be Virgin Media, sounded like it was from some call centre in India. They said my internet was at risk and they could sort it out remotely. Then they asked me to download some app on my phone. I told them I don’t have a smartphone, which seemed to annoy the guy a bit, then he asked if anyone else in the house did. I said no and they just ended the call. Honestly, I wish there was some kind of spy gadget I could use on these lot to teach them a lesson. Let’s leave that to the clever folks to figure out.

On 17th May 2022, I got a call from 01269333027. I rarely pick up calls from numbers I don’t know, but I was expecting a phone call that day so I answered by accident. A woman with an Indian accent said she was ringing about my internet service provider. As soon as I heard this, I told her to take me off their call list. She didn’t listen to me and kept insisting the call was about my 'internet line' and that it was important. I told her I wasn’t interested and ended the call. Definitely seemed like a scam to me.

Got a call claiming to be from Virgin Media, going on about some suspicious activity on my internet. They couldn’t verify my name or any of my account info, so I called them out on being scammers. They got a bit defensive and insisted they weren’t. Then they tried to convince me to download some software on my phone to "protect me from scammers." Yeah, right. I told them no way I was gonna do that since they seemed dodgy to me. After that, they just said “have a good day” and hung up.

I received a call claiming to be from EE, and I thought I’d have a bit of fun with it. The bloke on the other end of the line, who had a distinctly heavy Indian accent, introduced himself as Steven. He informed me that he was about to send a verification code to my phone through an SMS. Then he mentioned I'd need to click on a link in that message to confirm my identity. To buy some time and spare someone else from being scammed, I engaged him for a good five minutes with some silly questions. I started asking things like, “What on earth is an SMS? You keep switching between saying SMS and text message-do I need a different app to read each one? And how exactly does one open a text message?” The bloke lost his patience and eventually hung up, probably thinking I was quite the simpleton!
