Got a voicemail saying it's from HMRC for someone called Denis Grey, which isn't me at all. It said if I or my lawyer don’t ring back, there’d be “consequences”. Definitely feels like one to just brush off.

I got called twice with these creepy robotic messages, same as you! HM Revenue rarely calls you, especially not leaving strange voicemails asking for a call back. They normally just send letters in the post.
