Just noticed it’s Carphone Warehouse 😞 A few years back, my husband fell for one of their calls. The caller knew all about his O2 plan and even mentioned an upgrade was coming. They sent him a phone, but when he tried sending it back, the number was linked to some company called Sunspot in South Africa, so calling them was gonna cost a fortune. O2 told us they weren’t connected to it and had loads of complaints about the same thing. Best to avoid and block that number completely.

Someone rang me, claiming they were from O2 and had a 30% discount on my plan. When I mentioned I’d prefer to check the offer through the app, they suddenly became dodgy and insisted the discount was only valid if I dealt with them on the phone. I told them I’d ring O2 directly myself and ended the call.

Got a call from someone claiming to be Car Phone Warehouse - definitely a scam. Come on Vodafone and the other networks, you’ve gotta do something about these numbers and block them! You’re the ones with the capability. It’s not fair to let this continue just for profit. So many older people get hassled and scared by these annoying calls. Please sort it out!

Got a call from Carphone Warehouse trying to sell me a new deal with unlimited calls, tech stuff and overseas calls for £10 a month. They told me I was still tied into a contract but said they'd cover the cost to get me onto their new plan. I said it wouldn't make sense for them to pay off my current contract then offer me a cheaper deal without something in writing first. Then they said they’d need my bank details, which seemed odd since you typically don’t pay for SIM details via bank debit. I asked about it, and then they just hung up on me.

Total rip-off! The moment I picked up, they hung up on me straight away. When I rang them back, I got an automated message saying "Thanks for contacting Skies Telecom." I got a call from someone named Harry earlier today, 2nd November, who said he was ringing from Carphone Warehouse. Funny thing is, I’d just heard a Radio 4 programme on You and Yours back in October 2021 that talked about this exact scam. They explained how the scam works: first, they offer you a phone at a really low price, but it’s faulty or not what you ordered, so you send it back. Meanwhile, they’ve already got your bank info and use it to set up a contract in your name, often with Vodafone, which isn’t the one at fault here. You end up paying for a contract you never agreed to. What caught my attention was that Carphone Warehouse has actually been absorbed by Curry’s now, and from what I heard on You and Yours, Curry’s would never call customers pretending to be Carphone Warehouse. So if anyone calls saying they’re from Carphone Warehouse, it’s a red flag. I told Harry this and he just hung up on me probably to move on to the next person. So just be aware, don’t get caught out by this!
