On 29th June 2026, I got a call supposedly from Barclay, mentioning a direct debit from my account for some Aberdeen car hire firm. Clearly a scam, since I’m not even a Barclays customer.

Just got a message on my mum’s phone saying it’s from Barclays: apparently there’s a Direct Debit of £659.99 to ABERDEEN CAR HIRES scheduled for the 23rd every month. They told her to ring 0114 356 0019 straight away if she didn’t approve it. Sounds dodgy to me, watch out!

Some bloke rang, said he was from Curry's PC World with some cracking deal on an iPhone for £30 a month. I asked him how that would work since I’m still tied into a contract. He brushed it off, said it wouldn’t be a problem and they’d sort it all out. I kept him talking for a bit, didn’t give him any info, then just told him I wasn’t interested. Reckon he was pretty sure he had me there!

This bloke said he was with Carphone Warehouse and asked if I fancied upgrading to the Galaxy S21 or iPhone. He claimed he was ringing from 'Bromley' even though my phone showed 'Sheffield' on the screen. The call had a terrible echo and loads of delay - total SCAMMER vibes, probably dialing in from India. I played along for a while before telling him off and saying to 'stop wasting my time and leave me alone'. Not exactly those words, but you get what I mean.

Some bloke named Michael rang me, saying he was from O2. He told me I'd get a couple of texts with a promo code for a discount. Sure enough, I got two texts pretending to be from O2 - the first one even said the call was a scam. Then the second text had a six-digit code, meant to 'secure' my account or something. It’s obvious the call and texts are one big scam.
