I logged onto my computer to try fix the problems as they said. After a bit, they told me I was owed £200 back because my warranty had expired and offered to fix the errors if I renewed it. Then they asked for my card info - total scam! I pretended I knew nothing about computers, didn’t even know what a keyboard was, and just acted like I couldn’t follow a word she said. She kept trying to get me to go to the TeamViewer website and install their app. At the moment she asked me to do that, I told her to send me the steps by post and arrange a meeting that way. TalkTalk had a contractor who had access to our personal info like names, addresses and account details and passed that info on to criminals, yet they never informed us. When I told them about it, they didn’t even admit there was a problem. I only discovered this from a headline in The Guardian on 15th Feb saying “Millions of TalkTalk customers at risk of fraud”. When I asked them to give me my own name, they couldn’t. I stayed calm and told them they were actually ringing a police station and that I’m a police officer. I kept polite but explained they were violating the Data Protection Act from 1998 and kept asking for their names.
