These messages have been coming through almost every week since about 2013, maybe even earlier, but the weird thing is that number isn’t mine. It’s about BoConcept sofas - I actually bought one way back in 2007! That’s some serious persistence on their part. So yeah, it’s been at least 12 years. I’m too wary to reply or message a premium number, so I just leave it alone.

I used to be a member at Perdiswell Leisure Centre but had cancelled my membership. I thought it was okay to text STOP to 88882 to stop all their messages, but it turns out that's a premium rate number. Honestly, it feels daft that a proper business would make you pay 15p just to block their spam texts. Totally not on!

I keep getting adverts from La Redoute even tho I never signed up for any of them. They want me to text 88882 and pay just to stop the messages! Honestly, it feels wrong that they wanna charge you to stop spamming your phone. Shouldn't be allowed at all.

I got a call from Evans Halshaw’s reminder system and was shocked to find out that the way to stop their never-ending marketing calls was to ring a premium rate number! Absolutely disgraceful practice to trap people into paying just to opt out. I’d advise anyone dealing with this to block the number straight away or try calling them to get your details taken off their list. Such dodgy and exploitative behaviour.

I got a message from someone named 'E Halshaw' saying they were from Evans Halshaw garage, telling me my car needs another check-up after a recent service I supposedly had. The text included a bitly link to schedule an appointment, plus a note to text 88882 if I wanted to opt out of the texts. Reading through the comments here, I’m thinking it’s probably a scam trying to get you to pay for something unnecessary.

I’ve been getting loads of service and marketing messages from Evans Halshaw, and each one says you can text ‘stop’ to unsubscribe. But here’s the kicker - you get charged for sending that text! Bit dodgy if you ask me... charging people to opt out of the spam.

I saw a tiny 12.5p cost on my phone bill and figured it was linked to a text from Wickes about their bathroom and kitchen deals. About a year and a half back, I got some furniture fitted from them. On Martin Lewis’s site, I spotted this thing about 'premium text services', so I went ahead and texted "wickes stop" to 88882. Got a reply saying I'd been unsubscribed from something I didn’t even know I’d signed up for! It really takes me back to when I got my first mobile, and they charged me just for voicemail messages from the phone company trying to sell me extras. Totally bonkers!

Got a message claiming to be from Wickes, but I’ve recently been in touch with them, so it seemed fishy. I tried to opt out of the texts, but just like the other person mentioned, it didn’t work. Fingers crossed Sky blocked it!

Judging by all the comments, this was clearly a scam text. Loads of bogus companies seem to be using this exact number. I've blocked it and reported the whole thing.

I've been getting adverts from La Redoute and they're asking me to text 88882 if I want to stop, but I'm a bit worried it might end up costing me.

Cruises has been texting me nonstop, and their message says to reply STOP to 88882 if I want the messages to stop. But whenever I try to send the text, it just bounces back saying it can't be sent. I’m wondering if my carrier SKY is blocking the number or something, cause that's the only explanation I can think of. Quite annoying!

I've been getting messages from this number saying they're from Wickes DIY or DHL, but it's pretty clear they're fake. They send these dodgy links, often shortened with bitly, that actually take you somewhere dodgy. Honestly, don't ever click on any of the links they send, they're just trying to scam you.

got a text from wickes diy, seemed a bit dodgy so i’m just going to block it and report as spam.

I saw this number pop up in my messages as some kind of “usage charge,” but it was at a time when I definitely wasn’t on my phone. Seems a bit odd to me.
