88440 Summary (Read all comments)

Phone number ☎️ 88440 👆 is reported as a notorious scam number linked to unsolicited premium-rate texts and phishing attempts in the UK. It commonly sends false claims about mis-sold car finance, fake loan offers, and fraudulent VIP sales events for brands like "Next," but none of these offers are genuine. Recipients who reply to opt out face unexpected charges, as the short code is premium rate, and blocking the number seemingly does not stop the messages. The scams also include fake energy refunds, gambling adverts, and misleading links, sometimes impersonating known companies. Users warn that engaging with the number leads to financial loss and ongoing harassment. Reporting to official bodies is advised, yet many complain of persistent texts despite efforts to block or report.

If you get a message saying text 88440 to claim for car finance sold in the middle of a deal, just ignore it. It’s definitely a scam trying to trick you. Don’t fall for it!

Got a call from some PCP scam, trying to say I had compensation for some car finance deal that was supposedly mis-sold. Thing is, I don’t even have a car! Just ended up blocking them and reported the number straight away.

Got a random text outta nowhere saying I’m due some cash 'cause of dodgy car finance, then it tells me to text EXIT 88440 if I don’t wanna claim. Obviously, I’m not owed a penny. Watch out, this smells like a scam to me.

Got a message from a 88440 number about a PCP car finance refund claim. I replied to stop, but turns out it’s a premium rate number and I got charged. I’ve never even had car finance, so I reckon it’s some sort of scam. Best thing is to just ignore it or block the sender.

Got a text from CLAIM PCP, or something like that, saying PCP CLAIM. The ending bit told me to text EXIT 88440 or something similar. I didn’t reply but did forward it to 7726 for scam awareness. Definitely looks dodgy to me.

Some joker pretended to be Heeseung, who’s in that Korean boy band ENHYPEN or whatever it’s called. I’ve got no clue who that is really. Total nonsense if you ask me. What a daft scam! Ahhhh!

Got this text the 26th of March 2026, sounds like it’s from Vodafone: 'You might get back as much as £2,100 about mis-sold car finance. See if you qualify for free here: https://apply1[.]pcprefundwizard[.]co[.]uk. If you want to stop messages, just text EXIT to 88440.'

Got a dodgy text outta nowhere saying I might get about £2,100 back for Mis-sold Car Finance. It had a link: https://apply1[.]pcprefundwizard[.]co[.]uk/ Also told me to text EXIT to 88440 if I wanted out. Definitely a scam. Looks like they are using job sites like Indeed to post fake job ads just to grab your personal info. Don’t trust it and just block straight away!

They keep sending me premium texts and there's no way to unsubscribe or stop them. Really annoying!

Got a random text out of the blue saying I should reply EXIT to 88440 to prove my number's active and that scammers should target me. The message claimed I might be due up to £2,100.00 for Mis-sold Car Finance. Just to be clear, I’m not owed a penny, so their info is pure rubbish. Watch out for scams like this and don’t give out any personal info to anyone making up nonsense like that.

I got caught up in a dodgy car finance deal - felt like a right scam to me. If you're in the same boat, send the details to 7726, which is the official number for reporting text scams. Hopefully, they’ll step in and sort this out.

Somebody came round to my place saying I was overpaying on my energy. They said they could sort me out a refund and get me in touch with Scottish Power. Later on, I got a text from 88440 with a link asking me to call back if interested. They then tried to get me to hand over my phone to connect or something, but I said no way and told them to get lost. It was a young woman, who looked like she might be a lesbian, with an Indian guy. They kept switching between two iPads and a phone moving info about or something.

Got two texts in one day from someone saying they're from an energy company. The message said something like, "Hello Susan, energy prices went up by 6.4% last April, and average yearly bills hit £1849. See www.confirmsms.co.uk/18NTsV to learn how solar panels might help you save in HP21 8JE. Reply STOP13 to 88440 if you want out." Sounds dodgy to me.

Just got a text off someone called EISINVEST promising a 10x return if I put money in. Nah, I'm blocking that straight away. Honestly, our phone systems need to have reverse lookups on these dodgy numbers. Or better yet, people in the UK should be able to freely check who’s behind a number, text, or email. That would really shake things up.

Beware, this is a scam! They pretended to be Masala Twist Indian restaurant. I placed an order online around half a year ago, and now they spam me nearly every week with pointless adverts. Got a text from 88440 claiming to be “Next” saying it’s my last chance to grab a VIP SALE offer. They want me to apply via some link by midnight for Nextpay Credit Account holders. Says something about 23.9% APR and T&Cs. Looks like a scam number to me, definitely a premium rate ripoff. They also mention texting NEXT to 88440 to opt out but charges might be involved. Watch out for this one!

Got a message from 88440 claiming to be Anglian Water, saying I should text back to stop getting updates about water quality. Thought it seemed a bit off so I looked it up here first. Good job I did, I’m going to block that number now.

Received a message claiming to be from Next, inviting me to get an email update. It requested that I reply with 'yes' or simply text NEXT to 88440, which is clearly a premium rate number. I've gone ahead and flagged it as spam.

I keep getting messages from “Next” about VIP places and some app to download. I block them every time but they don’t stop. The link looks fishy and they say you can opt out by texting STOP to 88440. Be careful with these!

They said it was an invite for the next sale. If I wanted to opt out of texts, I had to reply NEXT to 88440 - but it was a premium rate number and I got charged for the message!

Cherryloans, Simply Loans & Fortis all appear to be using the same 88440 text number for opting out of their messages. I've received texts from all three, two offering me loan applications and one saying my loan was declined (even though I've never applied). I’m struggling to block the numbers they keep texting from, which is really frustrating. I’d rather not text that 88440 number to opt out since I don’t want to interact with them at all.

This number is listed as the ‘opt out’ contact for ASPIRE COMPETITIONS - which is supposed to be a genuine prize draw/raffle outfit but it looks like they don’t realise that the number they provide actually belongs to a shady firm. might be worth telling them! https://www.aspirecomps.co.uk/

Got a text from a local pizza place called PizzaTime in Grimsby. Heads up, don’t reply with the opt-out number they give, it’s a premium rate and you’ll get charged for texting it! I’ve already flagged it as spam with my phone company.

I ordered from a restaurant during the lockdown and now they keep bombarding me with texts. They’ve given a number to opt out, but it’s a premium rate, so I’d actually have to pay them to make the messages stop. Proper cheeky if you ask me.

The caller ID showed "InnerFir" and linked me to a site that closely resembles the Inner Fire takeaway, but the message wasn't actually from their number. Tried sending a message to 2276 but it wouldn’t go through. No chance I’m texting leave to some random shortcode like they said.
