I got a call saying there was some "unusual activity" on my account but when I checked, all the transactions were totally mine and nothing suspicious at all.

I got two missed calls and a voicemail saying it was from PC Mastercard, warning me about suspicious activity on my card. The voicemail asked me to ring back either on the number they left or the one on the back of my card. So, I used the number on my card to call PC Mastercard directly. They told me everything was fine with my account, no problems at all. I told them about the calls and gave them the number that called me - 877 939 3933. They put me on hold briefly and then said that the number wasn’t linked to PC Mastercard. They also mentioned I was lucky not to have answered it. Lesson learnt: only call the number printed on your credit card!

Got a voicemail saying I supposedly have a few million pounds sitting in some escrow account waiting for me. Seems dodgy to me.

I filed a fraud complaint and got this response:

After checking the account, please get in touch with our Security Team at 1-877-939-3933 when you can. They’re available from 8am to 11pm EST. I can confirm this number is real. Today I received a voicemail asking me to ring either this number or the one on my card. When I called the card number, I only provided my name and answered a few security questions. They then gave me my credit card number back. The person said this was their security department’s number and put me through to the team. Apparently, there was a dubious charge on my account, so they're sending me a replacement card just to be safe.

I rang the general customer service number listed on their site, but be prepared because you need to navigate through a couple of menu options first. Once I got through, the lady confirmed that the number was indeed linked to their fraud team and there's an alert on it.

That number's a load of cobblers. I rang up PC Optimum's main office and they confirmed it’s been reported. Don’t ring it or hand over any details, it’s dodgy. 07/06/2020

Yeah, I got a call from a number that’s definitely from President's Choice. They rang me up because of a weird purchase they spotted. The person on the phone said their system gets a bit stricter with online buys around Christmas time.

I dont even have a PC MasterCard or any kind of MasterCard, yet just got a call asking for details about my account which seemed pretty fishy to me (I always thought PC Financial wasnt around anymore?). Ive read some folks say they rang the number and it connected to their fraud dept and it seemed official, but how do we really know these calls aren’t just spoofers pretending?

I tried ringing the number on the back of my credit card and it’s definitely real, but seems like it’s automated. When I got through, they put me on to someone who was fully aware of the issue - some suspicious transaction that got flagged. The person confirmed it was an authentic purchase though. They also mentioned that if you want the calls to stop, you just have to answer, stay on the line briefly, and then hang up.

So we rang them back just to be sure, and it turns out the number is actually genuine. Everything seemed to be in order.

This morning at work, I received a call from this number. The lady told me there had been a purchase made for a BMX bike in North Vancouver. She asked me to confirm my card details and informed me that my account would be closed, with a replacement card sent to my home. It’s good to know PC Financial is keeping an eye out for me.

Got two texts from this number calling me by a completely different name, nothing like mine. I rang them back and told them straight up to stop calling since it’s my phone and not who they were looking for. Then they asked for my PC Financial card details! I told them no way, I don’t have any issues with my card. They said they just wanted to check if there was a problem with my account. I made it clear I was only calling to ask them to stop contacting me, then I said thanks and hung up.

If this number rings you, it's actually a legit contact for PC Financial MasterCard’s fraud department. I double-checked by calling a different PC Financial number and specifically asked to speak to fraud services. They confirmed it’s genuine. So basically, if you’re on a road trip and forget to notify them about your travel plans, using your card in new places might trigger a warning on their end. That’s when they give you a call to check. If you’re unsure, try ringing a different official number instead of the one that called you. If it turns out they’re genuine, they’ll confirm it, and can still help with whatever issue you have from the number you dialled.

I got a call from 18779393933 claiming to be PC financial, saying there was a fraud investigation going on. They then asked me why I had contacted them in the first place. When they started requesting my account details, I told them that since they were the ones who'd called me, they should already have that info. I requested to speak with a supervisor, and once I was put through, the so-called supervisor also asked me for my account details. I told him again that their company should already have my info since they initiated the call. Then I wanted to talk to his superior, but he said no one above was available until the next day.

Got a call saying there was an issue with my Mastercard. Still not sure if it was legit or just a scam.
