Looks like some dodgy payment scam to me! Definitely wouldn't trust calls about money from unknown numbers. Always good to be careful with any unexpected payment requests.

Watch out, this is definitely a rip off. I’d also tell the bank about it. The bit that got me is that they charge you just for replying, which makes me think they’re trying to make money by billing folks for even getting back to them.

Got a text today, 7 June 2017, saying there were two transactions on my account. It felt a bit dodgy, so I looked up the number online. There were mixed reviews about it, so I rang Barclays just to be safe. They told me they never sent that message and advised me to block the number straightaway. Not sure how the person got hold of that info, but now I’m definitely more careful about using my debit card online.

Got a suspicious text from Barclays, so I didn't bother with it at first. Turns out they had blocked my card! Total muppets. Instead of actually preventing fraud, they're sending dodgy messages. Had to ring them up just to sort my card out again. What a pain!

Just a heads up, got a couple of texts supposedly from 'Barclays' from the number 68989. I called Barclays on 0345 605 2345 to double check and they said they never sent any messages from that number. So, I'd say be careful and don't respond!

This definitely isn’t a scam, I checked Barclays’ official site and it says they send fraud alerts by text if they spot anything suspicious and have your UK number. The problem I’m facing is when they ask me to reply with Y or N to 68989, my reply just won’t go through and always fails. Dunno if it’s my Android phone or my network provider causing the issue, but Barclays really needs to look into it! According to them, these texts will show the transaction details and ask for a simple Y or N response only. They’ll never ask for personal info or security details in the messages, and you shouldn’t reply to any texts asking for that kind of stuff. Also, Barclays won’t phone you to explain how to answer a fraud alert text. For those in the UK, replying is free, though from abroad it’ll only charge a regular text fee.

Got a message saying £70.14 spent at Hot Wire in France. It asked me to text back Y if I recognised the payment or N if I didn’t. I replied with an N just to see what would happen. Right after, I got a call, and my Samsung flagged it as a scam because other people had reported it before. I logged into my bank app and couldn’t find any £70 transaction. Definitely a dodgy scam, so I’d suggest blocking the number straight away.

I just saw some odd charges: £192.06 and £64.02 both from EXTRA MARKET in Haiti, plus £23.00 at DSA THEORY TEST in the UK. If you made these payments, reply Y, if not, reply N. They say replying is free if you’re in the UK. This looks like a scam to me, so don’t reply, block the number and get in touch with your bank straight away.

Just to let everyone know, the story this person is telling isn’t true at all. I got the same text and decided to call Barclaycard myself. They told me there’s been no suspicious activity on my account and they definitely didn’t send any message from that short number. So please don’t call back or reply to it. If you’re unsure, double check with Barclaycard directly. This number’s just a scam and you should ignore messages like this. Also, by mistake, this site ended up showing my number too, which was a bit confusing.

I just got a message saying Barclays are checking a suspicious payment.

It asked if I'd tried to buy something for £2421 from ARGOS UK on 01/10/16.
They wanted me to reply with Y if it was me or to ring 0843 289 9441 if not.

Thing is, I don't even have an account with Barclays! Looks like a scam to me, trying to get you to respond or call. Watch out for these fraud attempts.

I’ve never had an account with these people, yet I got a message from the number 08... saying “Barclays are doing a fraud check. Did you try to transfer £3500 to DIA Ltd? If yes, reply Y. If no, ring 08432890394.” I rung the number and ended up waiting on hold, they said I was 9th in line. I don’t even have that amount in my account, but called thinking it might be about my overdraft. Turns out, it’s definitely a scam!

I got a text from what looked like Barclays asking me to confirm a transaction, but it seemed a bit fishy. This is actually legit. It's Barclays Fraud team who're following up on transactions they reckon might be dodgy. They ask you to ring back on 68989, but bear in mind it's a premium rate number, so some mobile providers won't let you dial it.

Watch out, replies to their texts might come with a cost! I got a message that seemed legit from Barclays asking about my account activity, but when I tried to respond, a warning popped up saying "This will incur charges on your phone bill." This isn’t some scam, it’s actually Barclays. They messaged me earlier saying: “We need to check some recent transactions on your debit card. We’ll send more info shortly and you’ll need to reply.” Then, about ten seconds later, I got a follow-up text listing all the charges. I had to reply with a simple “Y” to confirm it was me.

Just got a message talkin about some dodgy withdrawals from my Barclays account. Don’t reply to it, looks like a scam to me. I had a quick search online and loads of others have had the same thing happen. If you’re worried, call Barclays on the number printed on the back of your card, not any number they send you. Watch out for this kind of message followed by texts and then a call - seems like a classic scam trick.
