I've come across some rather dubious payment activity.

Beware of this fraud! I'd also recommend notifying your bank about it. The mere presence of a fee for replying indicates that this scam might be raking in cash by charging unsuspecting individuals for their responses. Stay vigilant, everyone!

I received a message from this number that mentioned some of my bank transactions, including one that I attempted but couldn’t complete. Honestly, it all seems quite dodgy to me.

I got a rather suspicious message today claiming there were mysterious charges on my account, which simply isn’t true. I promptly erased the texts and filed a report with Barclays.

Barclays insisted they hadn’t sent me anything, and then they proceeded to block my card. In the end, it turned out it was indeed them causing the hassle! Utterly ridiculous, honestly!

Today, on the 7th of June 2017, I got a rather suspicious text regarding a couple of transactions. Thinking it a bit odd, I decided to look up the number online. The results were all over the place, so I reached out to Barclays to verify. They let me know that they hadn’t sent such a message and advised me to block that number straight away. It’s quite unsettling to think about how the sender obtained my details, and now I’m feeling pretty wary about using my debit card for online shopping in the future...

I just got a message and a call this evening claiming to be from Barclays. I picked up, and it turned out to be a robot voice that said my name. I'll ring the bank first thing tomorrow to verify if it's legitimate.

I decided to just disregard the message, and wouldn't you know it, Barclays went and froze my card! What a bunch of numpties. They’re out here supposedly trying to combat fraud yet they’re the ones sending dodgy texts themselves. Honestly, what a palaver! Had to give them a ring to get my card up and running again. Absolute plonkers!

Please, no responses! I've had a couple of texts claiming to be from 'Barclays' regarding the number 68989. I got in touch with Barclays directly on 0345 605 2345, and they verified that those messages didn’t come from them at all.

"Just noticed a message saying there was a charge of £70.14 from Hot Wire in France. If it's your transaction, text back with a Y; if not, reply with an N. It's free to respond from the UK. I was intrigued, so I shot back an 'N' and lo and behold, I got a call that my Samsung flagged as a scam - clearly, others have had the same experience with that number. I took a moment to check my bank statement online and couldn’t find any charge of £70. Clearly, this is dodgy business, so do yourself a favour and block that number straight away!"

I just received a message showing charges of £192.06 and £64.02 from EXTRA MARKET in Haiti, along with £23.00 for a DSA THEORY TEST in the UK. If these transactions are yours, please respond with Y; otherwise, reply N if they don't ring a bell. You won't be charged for any responses within the UK. It seems quite dodgy to me, so I'd advise against replying. Just block the number and get in touch with your bank to sort it out.

It appears that Barclays utilises this number for transaction verification. Typically, you ought to get a preliminary message from them before the one from 68989, letting you know this is coming.

I can attest that the individual above is spinning tall tales. I received a message of the same nature, and when I reached out to Barclays, they assured me that there was no record of such activity on my account. They also informed me that they had not sent any communication from that short number. I advise against responding or making any calls. If you have any doubts, do verify directly with Barclays. This number is definitely a scam, so do exercise caution and disregard any similar messages. It appears my number has been mistakenly published on this site.

I've received a rather suspicious text from some supposed Barclays account checking for fraudulent activity. It inquired if I had made a purchase of £2421 at ARGOS UK on the 1st of October, 2016. They want me to respond with 'Y' if it’s true or 'N' if not. However, I'm not even a Barclays customer! Sounds like a classic scam attempt to me, just more of the same rubbish from fraudsters.

I received a message this morning that was identical to one I've seen before. I contacted my bank's fraud department, and they informed me that they have no knowledge of such texts being issued. Moreover, my card has not been used recently. They advised me not to respond to it, as it appears to be a scam or from some dodgy characters.

It appears that Barclays is running a verification for potential fraudulent activity. Could you confirm whether you initiated this transaction? Amount: £2102 at ARGOS UK on the 22nd of September, 2016. If this was indeed you, respond with a 'Y'. Otherwise, please reach out to 0843 289 9280 for assistance.

Could someone shoot me a message to clarify whether I accidentally initiated a payment of £2400? I definitely don’t hold any accounts with Barclays. Plus, it directed me to call a premium-rate number, which seems a bit dodgy. Cheers!

I've no dealings with them whatsoever. I received a call from the number 08... mentioned in their message, and I found myself waiting. I was the ninth one in the queue. The message stated, "Barclays is performing a fraud check. Did you initiate a transfer of £3500 to DIA Ltd? If so, please respond with 'Y'. If not, ring us back on 08432890394." I don’t have that sort of cash, to begin with, but I thought I’d call, assuming it might help with my overdraft situation. However, it’s clearly a scam!

Is this number associated with Barclays or not? It's rather perplexing! I'm not inclined to respond to any calls that aren’t familiar to me. I’d prefer to have a conversation with a real person instead of a robotic voice.

I can confirm it’s authentic. This call originates from the Fraud Prevention team at Barclays, reaching out to verify some transactions which they suspect might be dodgy. They ask you to ring back on 68989, but bear in mind that’s a premium rate number, and certain mobile providers might prevent you from dialing out. Why not consider dropping them a line via email or writing a letter instead? It seems that the text I received was actually from Barclays, inquiring about my account activity. However, responding to it isn't as straightforward as they suggest; I'm being warned that it won't come at no cost via UK networks. When I tried to reply, I received a message saying it could incur charges on my mobile bill. They ought to sort this out!

Absolutely not a con! It’s from Barclays. Earlier, I received a message saying: "We're looking to confirm some recent transactions on your Debit Card. Expect another text shortly with more details, and we’ll need your reply." Lo and behold, within ten seconds, I got the follow-up text detailing all the purchases. I simply had to reply with “Y” to acknowledge it.

I’ve noticed some dodgy charges appearing on my Barclays account. I’d advise against responding to any messages about it as they seem rather suspicious. You might want to do a quick online search for similar cases. It’s best to contact Barclays directly using the number on the back of your card. Just a heads up-be cautious of this message and any follow-ups that might come your way, including a phone call. Stay vigilant!
