My partner got ripped off by this number claiming to be the child benefits helpline. We got charged £196 just from two calls that basically just forwarded us to the real CB service.

We're gonna try the tips others mentioned and see if we can get our money back.

It’s shocking that companies like this are allowed to keep operating.

Beware of a scammer pretending to be HMRC. Spoke with them for about 4 minutes and ended up with a bill for £25! Thankfully, I’d set up a spending limit on my phone which kicked in and stopped the call before it got worse. If you’ve had something similar happen, I’d suggest sorting it out with your phone provider so they can look into it and hopefully give you a refund.

My missus got caught out by some dodgy premium rate service pretending to be HMRC - we lost about £50 and I was absolutely livid. Anyway, I managed to get a full refund! I looked up the Premium Services Authority and found the company behind the number, called Telecoms World Ltd. I reached out to their customer support, who pointed me towards the helpline-uk site. When I heard nothing back from helpline-uk, I went straight back to Telecoms World's [email protected] email, sent them a screenshot of the charges on my phone bill, and they agreed to refund everything. I shared my bank details, and the money was back in my account the next day. Before doing all this, I double checked that Telecoms World was a legitimate company that simply owns the phone lines scammers rent from them. They clearly want to avoid fuss from complaints, so if you've been caught out, make sure you raise it. Fingers crossed for you!

A couple days ago my wife got ripped off by this dodgy 'connection' line claiming to be from HMRC - we lost £50, which made me proper angry. HOWEVER, I managed to get all my money back!! What I did was look up the PSA (that premium rate regulator) and found the company behind the number, Telecoms World Ltd. I reached out to their support, who then pointed me towards the helpline-uk website. No luck complaining there as they didn’t answer, so I returned to Telecoms World. After I sent them a screenshot of the charges on my bill, they agreed to refund me completely. I gave them my bank details and within a day the money was back in my account. I’d checked Telecoms World beforehand to make sure they weren’t the scammers themselves - turns out they just own the lines the scammers rent. They don’t want the bother of complaints, so if you’ve been conned, make sure you raise a fuss. Fingers crossed for you!

Beware of helplines-uk.com - it’s a scam site offering a premium rate phone service that costs £3.60 a minute. My wife ended up ringing this number after seeing a Google ad claiming to be HMRC’s contact. She didn’t realise that the 090 prefix meant it was a pricey call, and we ended up getting charged £50 - luckily that’s our spending limit, could’ve been way more if not.

If you’ve fallen for this too, make sure you report the number to the PSA, which regulates premium phone lines. Also, lodge complaints with Telecoms World Limited, who actually own this line.

It’s a good idea to also tell Action Fraud, Wix (since they host the website), and HMRC themselves, as they supposedly take action against these fraudsters.

Hope this helps someone avoid the same mess!

Beware of this scam website called helplines-uk - they use a premium rate number charging £3.60 per minute! My partner ended up ringing this number after seeing a Google ad that claimed it was HMRC’s official contact. She didn’t realise that numbers starting with 090 were premium and cost a fortune. We got hit with a £50 bill, which luckily is the max we allowed on calls, or it could’ve been a lot more. If you’ve had the same experience, report the number to PSA (Ofcom’s authority for premium lines) and also complain to Telecoms World Limited since they’re the ones behind the line. Plus, it’s worth making a complaint to Action Fraud, Wix (the site host), and HMRC who are supposed to take action against scammers like this. Hope this helps others avoid getting ripped off!

My girlfriend needed to reach HMRC, so she dialled this number. It cost £3.45 a minute, and she was stuck on hold for nearly 12 minutes. To make matters worse, she called the same number twice more trying to get through. She’s pretty gutted about it, and feels a bit daft now, but I guess it’s a lesson learnt!
