My elderly mother, who is 89, received a call yesterday from the number 08712700039. They requested various bank details, and unfortunately, she shared everything before informing me. They claimed to be from something called telephone preference management. The person on the line identified herself as Karen, and I’ve since contacted Mum's bank. I'm absolutely furious. How could they have the audacity to target a vulnerable older lady like this?

I’ve just been approached by someone claiming to be from Telephone Preference Management. They assured me they’d be putting a stop to all those annoying overseas calls and that I'd no longer be bombarded with PPI or marketing nonsense. However, they requested to verify my personal information—everything from my phone number to my address. It took a turn when they asked for my credit card details and an expiry date. That was my cue to hang up! When I attempted to reach them again to clarify, they promptly cut the line. No luck getting through when I called back. Very dodgy!

Received a rather disconcerting call from a chap claiming to be from the Telephone Preference Service. Strangely, he seemed to have my name, address, and even the expiry date of my credit card! I decided it was wise to end the conversation right there. Before I hung up, I had requested his phone number, and he provided 08712700039. Quite dodgy, if you ask me!

I received a phone call from this number earlier today. It was a chap with an Indian accent—can't quite recall the name he used. He claimed to be representing the Nuisance Call Blocking team for my phone provider. Quite unsettling, really, as he had my name and address spot on. When he started probing for my credit card information, I promptly declined to engage, but he turned rather insistent.

I encountered a rather disconcerting situation similar to the one mentioned earlier. They possessed my name, home address, and even the details of my bank card, including its expiry date. The caller insisted I verify the complete card number, claiming they only had the first twelve digits. When I refused to cooperate, they began probing about my sort code, having only managed to acquire the initial digit. I firmly declined to share any more information, and they then proceeded to alter the specific digits they required, attempting to catch me off guard. Had I inadvertently answered any of their queries, they’d likely have pieced together the whole picture. Eventually, I hung up on them, but the incessant calls did not cease; they rang back five times, each time expressing regret for being disconnected. As a younger individual, I recognised this could potentially be a scam, yet they seemed incredibly convincing.

I've received a call that was quite alike, but the digits were identical, just differing at the end where it finished with 40.

I recently received a call from this number asking for my bank information. I told them I’d return their call, but it feels absolutely ridiculous that phone providers and even the police aren’t taking stronger action to put a stop to this nonsense. It’s shocking, really. Seems like the phone companies are inadvertently supporting these shady practices!

It's absolutely disgraceful how these individuals are taking advantage of older people; they ought to feel utterly disgraceful about their actions! What they’re doing is clearly against the law and falls under criminal activity. They truly are the most contemptible leeches in our community!
The authorities must chase them down with relentless determination and ensure they face serious consequences, including a spell behind bars.

I just had one of those dodgy calls trying to pull a fast one on me. They were after my bank card details and even asked for the security number on the back. Can you believe the nerve of them wanting to know if I'd set up a "memorable name" when I got the card? What a clueless numpty, thinking I'd fall for it!
The thing is, they can suss out if the details you're giving are bogus since card numbers follow specific formats. So, it’s best to provide them with numbers that look legit. They'll take the bait, only to be shooed away when they realise the numbers are fakes. If you're keen to mess with their heads, you can create yourself a dummy card here: https://names.igopaygo.com/credit-card to wield during such chats.
Honestly, I find it more entertaining to string them along and see how much of their time I can chew up rather than just hanging up. The longer they think they're getting anywhere with me, the less time they have to target those who might really fall for their tricks. Absolute muppets!

My mother fell victim to a scam as well, losing £99 to these deceitful individuals. It's quite alarming, really, considering that the product is of such poor quality and the adaptor provided is incompatible with our UK sockets. Normally, she's quite savvy and doesn’t easily get taken advantage of, which makes me all the more anxious about what might happen to unsuspecting others. I'm planning to reach out to Trading Standards, and I’ll also contact the bank to explore the possibility of a refund.

Today, my 85-year-old mum received two calls from this number, and she had another one from 02030363697 just yesterday. The caller, who introduced himself as Peter with an Indian accent, kept asking her the same questions over and over, probing into which bank she was with. Alarmingly, he already had her address and the expiry date on her debit card. He wanted her to confirm details, and when she said she didn’t have the information readily available, he insisted that she fetch it while they kept her on the line. I felt it was necessary to intervene and spoke to him myself, managing to get his name and number. He claimed he was calling about the telephone preference service. We ended up contacting both her phone provider and her bank for advice on this situation.

I just received a rather suspicious call from this number, claiming to represent a call-blocking service for telemarketers. The chap on the other end, who had a quite thick accent—likely Indian—introduced himself as Brad Jones. I inquired about the fees involved, and he assured me, “No weekly, no monthly, no yearly payments,” yet he didn’t mention any one-off fee either. Initially, he requested to speak to my son, but when I clarified that I’m the account holder and responsible for the bill, he then demanded my name and my debit card number, which he referred to as my “call blocker verification number,” along with the card’s expiry date to “verify my identity” and extend my contract. Strangely, he already knew my address and postcode! (He even quoted an incorrect expiry date for my card.) I’ve never signed up for any calling preference service, so I’m baffled as to how he’d have any of my card information for this alleged verification. I asked if I could ring him back, and he provided the number 08712700039, but of course, I’m definitely not calling that back!

I recently encountered a rather unpleasant experience with a firm operating under the guise of Telephone Preference Management, who exploited my elderly mother, suffering from dementia, into signing up for their dubious "services" on the 12th of August. It wasn't until the 18th, when they inadvertently contacted me, that I discovered the situation. The individual on the line, who claimed to be a "customer service executive" named Patrick and had a distinctly Indian accent, outright refused to annul the contract. He dismissed my insistence on exercising our legally protected right to cancel within the cooling-off period, falsely asserting that it was merely five days instead of the correct fourteen.
Frustrated, I had to ring them back not once, but twice, with Patrick steadfastly clinging to his narrative regarding unalterable telephone agreements and this five-day window. After an extensive argument, he begrudgingly escalated my call to his "manager", another seemingly Indian-sounding woman who, without delay, confirmed that the contract would indeed be nullified and that there would be no financial repercussions. Though I suspect they still came out on top with the call charges.

I received a call from the number 02030363697, and they were asking me the same sort of questions as mentioned previously. I refrained from sharing any details because absolutely no one should do that. When I probed for his name and contact number, he claimed to be Barry Jones, which struck me as peculiar given his Indian-sounding accent. His number was 0871200039. Clearly, this is a scam!

Received a call from 02030363697, and it was the same nonsense as previously reported. When I inquired about his name, he replied with BARRY JONES, which struck me as rather peculiar for someone with an Indian accent. He requested me to return his call on 08712700039. I chose to disregard the matter, and eventually, he hung up on me.

I just received a call from this outfit that was asking for my bank details and even the digits from the back of my card. Absolutely not a chance I was going to comply with that! I hung up, but they persistently tried to call back. They claimed they could help stop unwanted calls. When they rang once more, I picked up and warned them that if they bothered me again, I'd be getting the authorities involved. The bloke on the other end continued babbling on, so I just hung up again. What a bother!

I just received a call from a bloke named Mark Jordan. Strangely enough, all the remarks here seem quite similar. I even went so far as to mention that I’m a copper, but it didn’t seem to faze him in the slightest. What a cheeky scoundrel!

I wanted to share a rather troubling experience involving my elderly mother, who is 84 years young. On the 19th of July 2016, she was unfortunately duped by the number 08712700039. An individual with an Indian accent, posing as a representative from Talk Talk, approached her with a so-called telephone preference service. He convinced her by correctly stating the initial numbers of her bank account, which led her to divulge the remainder in exchange for a device promised to eliminate unwanted calls. Initially priced at over £90, he then had the audacity to lower it to precisely £71.71.
Regrettably, that amount was taken from her account; however, she’s taken action now and has contacted Lloyds Bank to halt any further transactions (she made that call today, 24th July 2016, a Sunday). I wish you the best of luck in your investigation of this number—do be sure to reach out to your bank and place a block! Best, John.

I found myself in a similar predicament, so I decided to return their call and informed them that I would be lodging a complaint with the Telephone Preference Service and the local constabulary. However, honestly, I'm not overly optimistic about it having any impact, seeing as their calls seem to originate from overseas.

Whatever you do, don’t divulge any financial information! Just hang up the phone! I received a call purportedly from Telephone Preference Management, which made me think of the TPS, but it’s clearly not the same. The chap on the line didn't even have my name right, and when he inquired about my address, he was way off the mark as well. I managed to extract the number from him and told him I’d ring back later. When I eventually did—after some digging around—I was greeted by an automated voice thanking me for reaching out to Call Blocker. After what felt like an eternity on hold, it encouraged me to record a message, but fortunately, there was an option to speak to a human. I told them that they were peddling a service meant to stop annoying calls like theirs, and I made it clear that I'd lodge a complaint with the TPS if they dared to ring me again.

Today, I had the misfortune of receiving a pair of calls regarding some supposed updates to my call blocking membership. I've only just signed up with TPS, so I was a bit bewildered. The caller had my personal information - my name and address - and astonishingly, they even mentioned the correct expiry date for my visa debit card while asking for the number. Upon asking for their identity and contact number, they shared 08712700039.
Is there really no way to put an end to these scammers? As an elderly widow, it would have been so incredibly easy for someone like me to fall for their ruse and end up losing my hard-earned money.

Honestly, this so-called “free service” is quite the con. They ask for all sorts of personal information, like your credit card details and even the expiration date! Whatever you do, don’t hand this info over! It’s high time we put a stop to these shady businesses. I’d rather endure those pesky marketing calls than deal with these rogues.

I just received a call from someone who specifically asked for my dad by name. When I told them he wasn’t around, they immediately started droning on about being from the TPS, which made me quite suspicious. I received a call today from a firm claiming to be Telephone Preference Management. They had my name, address, and other details, and their pitch was to register me for blocking marketing calls. They mentioned the number 8712700039 but oddly advised me to prefix it with +44. What baffled me was that the caller seemed unaware that in the UK, you generally start a number with a 0 when not using the country code +44. That was a clear sign something was off. Additionally, my call log indicated the number was 0203 but turned out to be unreachable. Definitely smells like a scam!
