My mum just informed me that she had handed out her card information over the phone to enrol in some call-blocking scheme. They provided her with a phone number and advised her to call a chap named Mark. However, when I tried that number, it wouldn't go through! It's clearly a scam, so if you happen to receive a call about this, best to steer clear. I'm planning to have my mum cancel her cards straight away.

Received a call on the 6th of May, 2014, from someone claiming to be with the National Call Advice Centre. They insisted I'd signed up for their service at £4 a month to filter out nuisance calls, which I certainly have not done, as I’m already on the Telephone Preference Service. They went on about how they could intercept all kinds of calls-overseas, silent, telemarketing, you name it. Then, they tried to persuade me to switch to a cheaper rate of just over a pound and requested my debit card information. I told them I hadn’t heard of their organisation before and would need to investigate further before getting back to them.
