I picked up the phone but there was complete silence on the other end. After maybe 10 seconds, they just ended the call.

But when the message arrived, there was a warning not to share any codes as it could be a scam. He seemed a bit thrown off when I started asking questions, especially when I called it out as dodgy. I just ended the call after that.

Feels like they might be trying to record my voice for some kinda ID scam down the line. I’ve blocked the number now. Be careful about talking back to unknown callers, could be risky.

Eventually, I got in touch with 02 to let them know what happened.

I got a call on 03/02/2021 from someone claiming to be with 2, saying I’d got a 40% discount on my airtime. They sent a text with a six-digit code to my mobile and asked me to say it back to verify the code. I didn’t though, as I told them I was driving and couldn’t check my phone. They insisted I pull over and read the code out loud. I ended the call there and reported everything to 02 afterwards.
