Had a call from someone claiming to be the Halifax mortgage department, wanting to set up a meeting. They only wanted to check my email to confirm it, didn’t ask for any other personal info. Later, I got an email from the proper Halifax address confirming the appointment, so I reckon this number is legit and not dodgy.

I received a missed call from this number last night but didn’t pick up. Then, I got another call from them this evening, so I decided to answer. A woman was on the other end, claiming to be from Halifax. I found it a bit odd since I don’t have an account with them. She then mentioned they were affiliated with Bank of Scotland, which I'm also not associated with. I told her this, to which she replied it was regarding a PPI claim I supposedly submitted. I assured her I hadn’t and promptly ended the call! She called me again shortly after, so I decided to block the number! Quite peculiar, if you ask me!

I had two calls from this number today. I usually don’t pick up if I don’t know who it is. If it’s legit, they’ll leave a voicemail. Scammers rarely do. They rely on you calling back, and a lot of people get charged loads for that. Best to just block or ignore any unknown numbers. If it’s really important, they’ll keep ringing until you answer. Mike

Got a call from someone saying they were from Scottish Widows pension, wanting to chat about a letter they supposedly sent me back in July last year. Bit odd to get a call about a letter from 7 months ago out of the blue, innit? Next thing, she just ended the call after I asked her to send me her concerns in writing.

Bit strange this one. They said they were from Lloyds bank, mentioned my PPI claim with them. Asked loads of questions that sounded connected to PPI. Then they wanted my account info, but I said no. They said no worries, if the claim goes through I’d get a cheque and a final decision would be made next week. Rang Lloyds afterwards and they said they hadn’t heard anything about that call. This is a real call from Halifax (or maybe Bank of Scotland or Lloyds, which are all under HBOS), replying to a complaint. However, making you ring back on an 0844 number that can charge up to 62p per minute goes against the Financial Conduct Authority's rule GEN 7.2.5.
