I received a rather alarming notification claiming that malware or adware had infiltrated my computer, urging me to ring a tech support number. At the time, I was using Internet Chromodo, which subsequently became unresponsive and has effectively locked me out of my system. It's still operating behind the scenes, making it impossible for me to uninstall it. When I dialled the number, I conversed with a young lady who had a distinctly Indian accent. I was curious about her employer, to which she claimed to be representing Microsoft. She requested that I hang up and assured me she would return my call, but in hindsight, I neglected to note the number she called from. She went on to affirm that my computer was indeed compromised and offered to rectify the situation for the sum of £169.00. This supposedly included a whole year of 24/7 tech support. Just an FYI, the caller's identity was masked.
