Received a message saying my PC was infected with malware and adware, telling me to ring their support line. I was using the Chromodo browser when it suddenly froze and locked me out, yet it’s still running, so I can’t uninstall it. When I rang the number, a woman with an Indian accent answered. I asked who she was from, and she claimed to be with Microsoft. She told me to hang up and wait for a callback, but I didn’t check what number she was calling from. She then said my computer had infection problems and offered to fix it and prevent future issues for £169.00, which would cover my tech support for a whole year 24/7. The caller ID was unknown.
