I received a rather dubious call from a number associated with a so-called computer security firm. They claimed to have installed a warning on my PC indicating a virus, urging me to reach out to them for assistance. I found myself speaking to an individual who introduced himself as Bob, with what seemed to be an Indian accent, who professed to be a certified Microsoft technician from an outfit named Live PC Fix. I foolishly granted him access to my computer while he tinkered around for nearly half an hour. After all that, he informed me that my "Microsoft software warranty package" had lapsed, and proceeded to list the following "services" that were supposedly crucial: 1. Registry Repair. 2. Error and Warning Fixes. 3. Reactivation of Disabled Services. 4. Virus Removal, System Cleaning, and Optimisation. 5. Resolving Network Issues and setting up Firewall Protection for all devices including PCs, laptops, smartphones, tablets, printers, and scanners. 6. Remote Assistance (no need for any physical trips with your device). 7. Regular Proactive Maintenance Checks every month by a certified technician. 8. 24/7 Unlimited Technical Support: * Phone Support Team available round the clock. * Escalation Support Team ready any time. * Critical Response Team to handle urgent matters. 9. Software Updates. Moreover, they attempted to sell me various licensed software solutions at extortionate prices: * Licensed Live Optimiser to boost your PC’s performance. * Licensed Live Antivirus for £60. * Licensed Live Anti-Spyware for £70. * Licensed Live Anti-Malware for £80. * Licensed Live Anti-Adware for £40. * Licensed Live Anti-Theft for £40. Packages ranged in price from £199.99 for one year up to £399.99 for five years. Once they finished their sales pitch, I clearly stated that I couldn't afford their offerings; however, they persisted with their hard sell for another 50 minutes before I finally managed to terminate the call. Fortunately, I quickly disconnected from the internet, restored my system to a pre-saved point, and performed a full scan with Microsoft Windows Defender, which revealed a Trojan that was subsequently eradicated. I followed that up with CCleaner, and now my computer appears to be running smoothly and, most importantly, is free of viruses. Beware of the caller: Bob from Live PC Fix!

I've had a rather concerning experience with this number. It appears to belong to a dubious outfit that specializes in peddling computer viruses. They manage to plant a notification on your device, claiming that malware has been detected. In a rather sinister twist, they then proceed to lock your browser, essentially holding it hostage until you fork over some cash for their "removal services." It seems they masquerade as a legitimate tech support line-be wary, especially since they identify themselves with a link resembling a Microsoft security page.

Seems like a dodgy attempt at extortion - really shoddy work if you ask me! Best to shut it all down and reboot. I’m determined to locate this numpty and give them a taste of their own medicine. There’s no escaping now, mate!
