This number is definitely from BT Engineers checking for issues on landlines. I found out yesterday when the BT site was down, so I rang 150 to see if it was just me or a bigger problem. The person on the line did a line test by ringing me back, and the timing of that call matches perfectly with when I got called. So, no need to mark it as a scam or anything dodgy. Today I got a call from a man with an Asian accent claiming he was calling on behalf of BT, asking me to test my broadband speed. Thinking it sounded dodgy, I asked him for a phone number in case the call got dropped. He gave me 0800800150. I was hesitant but he kept pushing, saying he was just trying to help and keep me safe. I’m not having any issues with BT right now and I definitely haven’t been in touch with them recently - which is odd considering this random text I got from a number I don’t recognise (no caller ID or anything). It said: "Hi this is Mieszko from BT. Sorry, I’m tied up with another customer and can’t make our set appointment. I’ll call you before 10am on 19/3/2024, hope that’s alright. Got a call from 0208 259 5295, bloke had a Nordic accent claiming to be from BT saying my internet IP was at risk. I asked why he was ringing since I’m not a BT customer, and he said my line runs through BT! I told him straight up he was a scammer, but he didn't care. Asked for his name - said Mark Brown! Yeah right! Then he wanted me to log into Google. I said no and told him I’d call back. He gave me this number, 0800 800 150, which sounds like BT, but I checked it here first! I just phoned 0800 800 150 after getting an email about someone trying to take control of my phone line. Seems like it's a real BT helpline because they sorted it out and cancelled the whole thing.

Definitely a scam, not BT at all. I chatted with the guy for around six minutes - me calling him out on the scam and him insisting he was from BT. It got pretty funny when I started laughing at how bad his excuses were. Kept him on the line for a good while, saying I could do this all day since I wasn’t paying for the call. Then he asked how old I was, so I told him to guess. He said 40 - nearly 27 years off! It’s sad, but some people might actually fall for this. I sent an email to check but doubt he even opened it. Stay alert!

Got a call at 7:45 in the morning from someone saying there was an issue with my broadband and telling me to log onto a laptop or desktop. First off, I told them it’s not right to ring me that early, and then I said I don’t even have either device. They asked why I even had internet then, but I told them it’s none of their concern. When I said if there was a problem with my router they should just send a replacement, they simply hung up.

Some bloke rang claiming he was from BT, telling me my internet provider had been changed from Private to public. I got suspicious straight away and asked him for a number to call back on. He gave me 0800800150, which, like others have said here, is obviously a con.

Got a call from this number. The person told me my IP address was public and needed changing to a private one. They stayed on the line for quite a while and attempted to get into my Santander account. Later, Santander contacted me to warn that someone was trying to withdraw £1000 from my account. Thankfully, they’ve closed the account now.

I got a call from a woman using a number I didn’t know, claiming there was an issue with my internet. She said she could guide me through the steps to sort it out. He definitely knew my name, but that was about it. He called from a different number that we couldn’t ring back since it showed up as unknown. He kept saying our broadband wasn’t private anymore and was now public. I told him to call back when my husband was free. He used loads of fancy words and kept talking over me, but I didn’t share any details. I’ll wait and see if he tries calling again.

I’ve been emailing with BT since yesterday. Then late yesterday and all through today, an 0800 number has been sending me BT deals on my phone. Don’t recall giving them my mobile number when we were talking, so I’ve just deleted those messages.

Got a phone call from a guy named James, sounded Asian, saying he was from Virgin Media. He told me some random people were using my internet without asking and asked if I could log into one of my devices. I said I wasn’t able to do that then and asked for a contact number. He gave me 0800 800 150, which I found out is actually BT's number. Definitely a dodgy scam call pretending to be legit. He got quite rude when I kept questioning him, so I just ended the call.

If you’re lookin at all these negative reviews, they’re MOSTLY from spoofed numbers. Just ring the number directly on your own phone and you’ll get the real BT. You might wanna google what spoofed numbers mean if you’re not familiar with them.

Got a call from someone claiming to be 'BT Openreach' - totally suspicious - saying my router was hacked by some third party and wanted to show me all the IP addresses live. I asked for a callback number, and she gave me the legit BT number 0800 800 150 (which I know is safe). But Openreach only handles the network infrastructure, they don't do ISP stuff. Plus, the call came from a mobile number, so even though they gave a real BT contact to ring back, it's clear they're trying to scam.

Someone rang me from 02075140466 about my IP address and when I said I’d call back to make sure it was legit, they gave me an 0800 number. I looked that up on this site and then decided to just leave it alone. Pretty clear to me both these numbers are linked and it’s a well done con job.

Got a call from a woman named Katherine Gilbert claiming to be with BT. She told me someone was messing with my internet, making it public instead of private. I got a call from someone who said he was Andrew with BT Open Reach, asking me to check if my internet route was running fine. I played along for a bit, then asked for his full details. He gave me the number 0800800150 and said he was calling from the BT office at 81 Nugent Street, London EC1A 7AJ. If that checks out, I’ll take back my complaint, but if not, this seems like a proper scam to me.

Had a woman named Anna ring me claiming to be from BT, saying there was some security issue with my internet and I had to switch my IP address. She told me to go onto Google to change the IP. I didn’t get involved but asked for her phone number, which she gave me no hassle - 0800 800 150. I phoned it back, it said BT but the recording was shoddy at best! Definitely a con, not BT at all!
