Earlier today, I got a call from this number. The person on the other end had quite a shaky grasp of English and it felt like she was simply reciting a script. Got a call yesterday from a number close to 0800 0161 5204 - this time it was 0800 161 5248. I don’t answer unknown calls nowadays, especially from 0800 numbers. The voicemail ended halfway through the message, which felt dodgy. From what I’ve read here, don’t ever reply to calls saying they’re from your bank - they always send you letters through the post if there’s anything important. So best just ignore them.

It's Barclays calling. I'd seriously think twice before picking up this number. Still, be aware that fraudsters often fake real bank numbers. There were 4 messages posted here on 11/01/23 with lots more info. Have a look, it might save you a headache later.

Got a call from someone talking with an Indian accent and their English was really bad. They asked for my info to do some kind of security check but I just laughed and said there's no way I'm giving anything. After that he didn't say a word and ended the call. Honestly, I'd avoid this number if I were you.

If you ring your bank to verify if a caller is genuine (like some mentioned below), the people in the call centre can usually tell if the bank has been trying to reach you and will either put you through to the right team or handle it themselves. They might not know about every single number the bank uses though. Just because the call centre says it’s a scam doesn’t always mean the number itself is dodgy. Fake calls using real business numbers are a big headache for both companies and us customers.

0800 161 5248 keeps ringing me claiming to be from Barclays, but it's definitely a scam. They called on 12/12/2022 and I just hung up straight away, then called again today, 14/12/2022, which I ignored. I’ve blocked the number now. Do not share any info with them. Just hang up or better yet, dont even pick up. Also, don’t call the bank right after because they might keep the call open to try and catch your details. Stay safe everyone.

Don't listen to that muppet claiming it's Barclays. It's a dodgy scam where they fake the number. I rang Barclays myself and they said it's definitely a scam. They told me not to ring them straight away cos sometimes the scammers stay on the line. Better to call some random number first, then get in touch with Barclays.

I got in touch with Barclays through their app right away, and they told me this is a scam thats going round recently. They advised me to block the caller. If you’re ever doubtful, just look up Barclays customer service on Google and call them yourself. NEVER share your personal info with these people!!!

I’ve just received a phone call purporting to be from Barclays. They requested my date of birth and my mother’s maiden name. I refused to share that information, and the caller seemed to accept it, suggesting I ring back the number to verify their credentials. I haven’t done so, as the whole exchange felt rather dubious.
