Loads of calls coming through to my landline from numbers with my area code but without the leading zero, all supposedly from Microsoft. I wish there was a way to block these. I usually warn people on the phone that its a scam, but sadly a lot of them are elderly and get duped. My father-in-law even got tricked by something alike recently.

AVOID THIS NUMBER AT ALL COSTS!!! Should you receive a notification claiming that your computer is locked and instructing you to call this number, alleging it’s from Microsoft, don’t fall for it! It’s an absolute con. There’s no connection to Microsoft whatsoever. Their aim is to gain remote control of your computer and to filch your personal details. I decided to ring them up and grilled the chap on the other end with all sorts of questions. However, as soon as he asked me to provide my name followed by a code he would send, my instincts kicked in and I became wary. He promptly hung up on me. I fell victim to a scammer - a bloke named 'Mark' from some company like 'Prime Time Solutions', which had an unmistakably American ring to it. I can’t believe I actually allowed him access to my computer! As soon as he started demanding payment, the penny dropped and I asked for his address. He promptly hung up on me. After that, go back into the browser and clear your cache plus cookies. The chap with the Asian accent demanded £100 to rectify the issue, but I promptly declined, and he just ended the call.

I had a rather unsettling conversation with an Asian gentleman whom I mistakenly believed was affiliated with Microsoft. I ended up assisting him in gaining access to my laptop and enabling his entry to my Wi-Fi network! He demanded a sum of £230, to which I explained that such an amount was beyond my means. He insisted that it wasn’t for him, but rather for my own security. I acknowledged that, however, being a student, I simply couldn't manage that kind of expense. I proposed breaking it down into £40 instalments, but he was adamant, insisting on a minimum of £80 upfront, with the remainder due in a week. Good grief, I can hardly wrap my head around the fact that I unwittingly facilitated a hacker’s access to my laptop! I've had to cancel my cards, shut down my laptop, and disconnect my Wi-Fi. What a nightmare!

Got caught out by the same scam, but luckily I was chatting to a woman and quickly searched the number on my phone, so I didn’t let her get remote access. After restarting my laptop and checking everything was ok, I rang back and let them know exactly what I thought.

DO NOT RING THIS NUMBER! I just called after my computer flagged some bank info was being stolen. Like an idiot, I answered and let them access my PC. Then they wanted £350 to sort it out. I said I couldn’t pay that, and they asked if I could get a family member to help, I said no. Then they just said I’d still have problems if I didn’t fix it. I told them I’d rather not have a computer than pay them. Then they said bye and hung up. Be very careful with this one!

This was just like all the other scams I’ve heard about. I was on the phone with a ‘tech support’ guy for about 20 minutes and actually thought he was legit until he suddenly asked me to pay £500 to sort out my laptop. I called him out on being a scammer and he got all defensive. I ended the call straight away. Then I shut down my laptop, turned off the WiFi, did a factory reset and connected to a new network. Definitely make sure you change all your passwords as well!

I had a rather alarming experience yesterday when a notification flashed up on my screen, claiming my computer had been infected with a virus and that it would be locked in a mere five minutes unless I rang immediately. In a moment of sheer folly, I decided to call the number provided. I was connected to a woman with an Asian accent who proceeded to guide me through various steps to access my computer and purportedly resolve the issue. Despite her seemingly professional demeanor, I couldn't help but notice her repetitive speech and a glaring spelling error, which raised substantial red flags for me. At that point, I quickly shut my device down. I’m planning to take it to a technician today for a thorough check-up because I’m feeling quite uneasy about using it, especially when it comes to my banking details.

I got this message outta nowhere - I tried calling three times, and each time they answered but the line cut out almost straight away. It made me a bit wary, especially coz of the weird background noise and the last call, the bloke who answered was laughing. I was on Mozilla Firefox when it all went down.

Total scam. Found this link on some dodgy Windows website, seemed pretty real at first. There was a woman speaking through the computer saying I had to call this number to get rid of a critical flame malware. She said if I closed the page Windows would block my PC to stop the virus spreading to their system. Definitely don’t call that number!

I got a call from 0800 090 38 and suddenly a warning appeared on my laptop saying it was hacked. They asked for loads of personal info to ‘fix’ it and even tried to get my bank details. I said no, and then the person just ended the call. I rang back, and they told me I had to pay them for the ‘repair’. Don’t fall for this, these people are just scammers!

They somehow got into my computer and showed awful videos of people getting hurt, telling me I’d be next if I didn’t phone this number and pay up. I changed browsers and luckily they lost access to my PC after that.

They called back and I gave them the same treatment. Then my number got blocked. Surely there's a way to report this and have their number blacklisted?

On Friday evening, I received a rather alarming notification on my laptop claiming that it was infected with some sort of malware, suggesting that hackers were attempting to access my card information and Facebook login credentials. It insisted that I must phone a certain number immediately for help. I called the number, only to be greeted by an individual with an Asian accent, who informed me that rectifying the issue would set me back a rather ludicrous £120. Yeah, right! I didn’t part with a single penny and promptly hung up. I then disconnected from my Wi-Fi and powered down the laptop. Just to be safe, I'm in the process of getting a new bank card.
