After getting a letter about an overpayment on an old account from nearly a decade ago, I ended up checking it out as it sounded dodgy at first. I rang the helpline number on the letter (0800 0154873) and gave them the reference and account details they asked for. They told me it was genuine and advised me to pop into a Lloyds branch with my driving licence and current bank details to verify my identity. I went along just like they said. That was a few days back, and to my surprise, this morning I found a BACS payment of £2,610.15 in my current account (which isn't with Lloyds). Honestly, don’t just brush these letters off without checking!

Had an account with TSB way back, closed it in 2002 and totally forgot about it until I got this letter out of the blue. Been living in France for the past 15 years! The details they included were spot on and it turns out I’m owed £727. The only annoying part is they won’t send the money outside the UK. Luckily, they agreed to put it into an old cashcard account I still have open, so that sorted it out. A €1000 windfall in the end, definitely made the trouble worthwhile.

Received a letter telling me I was owed a refund for an overpayment. I rang up Lloyds to check and they told me it's just a scam, so definitely don't hand over your bank info. Watch out everyone!

A while back, I got a letter supposedly from Lloyds Bank with a phone number, saying they owed me some money. I was a bit dubious because, honestly, when does a bank ever send you cash unexpectedly? Anyway, I rang the number and found out that I’d actually overpaid on a Lloyds credit card when I closed it back in 2004. They told me I’d be getting the overpaid amount back, plus 8% interest from 2004 all the way to 2016. So, after a week, the refund, with the added interest, was in my account. Not bad for something I thought was long forgotten! When I called, they asked a couple of security questions, but I didn’t just hand over answers straight away. I gave some bits, then asked them to confirm details they claimed to already have, just to make sure they weren’t scammers. They were fine with that, so I felt comfortable giving them what they already knew. So, in my case, it turned out to be legit and not some scam. And now I have some unexpected cash in my pocket!

Today I popped into my local bank branch to check up on a number I wasn’t sure about, and they confirmed it was genuine and even called it for me there and then. When I got home, I decided to ring them myself and found out I have £71 waiting for me! Not a huge sum, but still lovely to get back something. It was from an account I closed way back in 2003! Honestly, I thought it was probably some kind of scam, which is why I went to the branch to double-check.

It does seem legit. I rang the usual Lloyds number and asked for the Recoveries department. They passed me through, and I explained the situation. Turns out I’d made an overpayment on a credit card way back in 1999. Including interest, they owed me a bit over £2000. Quite a pleasant surprise!

I was really doubtful at first, but after calling Lloyds main enquiry line a bunch of times, it turns out this letter is legit and comes from their Recoveries team. It was about an old TSB account I had ages ago. If you're feeling unsure too, just ring their main number and ask for the recoveries department, or just pop into your nearest branch to check.

Got a letter about a refund from this number 08000154873... but I’ve never opened an account with Lloyds, so I’m pretty sure it’s a scam. Seriously, it’s FAKE, don’t trust it. Please, don’t call that number or share any of your bank info. Just the act of calling could give them your phone number, whether it’s your mobile or landline. Stay safe!

Can anyone tell me if this number is legit? I've seen people say different things in the comments, so I'm really not sure.

I got in touch with them and they asked me to visit any Lloyds branch. I spoke with the accounts manager there, who said it was legit. She even made a call to them herself and helped clear things up. She showed me an official email from the bank about the payments and letters, which convinced me it was all proper.

Back in 2006 I had a Lloyds credit card, and recently they sent me a letter about an overpayment of £160. I gave them a ring to check it out, and turns out I actually got my money back. I was a bit nervous at first, thought it might be some kind of scam, but it wasn’t. Glad it turned out alright!

Madness, honestly. I just put something up about this too. Back in 2007 I had a credit card with Lloyds, but how on earth did they find that out? Plus, they somehow knew my new place to send a bogus letter. Proper creepy. I've shifted all my cash into a different account now. Those sneaky little b*****ds, honestly.

So I just popped into the branch, right? They asked if I'd settled my credit card bill via a debt collector, and I told them I had. That’s apparently why I got overpaid. The woman checked everything and said it seemed all above board. Honestly, I reckon they didn’t really bother much since I’m not even with Lloyds anymore. Proper rubbish customer service, if you ask me.

Not sure what to think yet, I gave them a call and they told me they owe me £68. The woman then put me on hold to calculate the interest. I asked if they could just send me a cheque because I wasn’t comfortable sharing my bank info over the phone. She just told me if I had any questions, I should visit my nearest branch. So that’s exactly what I’m planning to do. I’ll update once I hear back from the branch.

So I got a letter supposedly from "Lloyds Bank" telling me to ring a certain number about a refund. I checked with Lloyds themselves and they said that number's a con! What's worse is these scammers have actually phoned my work today too. Proper dodgy stuff.

So, I got a letter saying I was owed a refund, but I wasn’t too sure about calling the number on it. Instead, I rang up Lloyds myself and they checked it out. Turns out it was legit and I eventually got the money back. I’d say best to contact your bank directly rather than risking it with the number on the letter.

Got some bogus letter telling me to call this number.

So, my partner got this letter from Lloyds that had this phone number on it. It seemed a bit dodgy, so instead of calling that number, he looked up Lloyds' official customer service number on their website and gave them a ring. Turns out, he actually does have a refund coming. If you think you might be owed money, definitely try calling them - but just make sure you use the number from the genuine Lloyds site, not the one in the letter. Better safe than sorry!

I'm pretty sure the last person commenting was part of it. When I called Lloyds customer support, the bloke was really helpful and checked their number list, but this number didn’t show up anywhere. Definitely a scam, unfortunately. Would be nice to have a proper hand with it though!

Sorry about my last comment. I get it now, it really is a scam. The earlier person was right about ringing the bank straight away, that was my error. Just remember, never ever dial the number written on the letter.

Just like many others have said, this is a total scam. The letterhead claiming to be from Lloyds looks really dodgy! There's no proper account info or anything believable in the message.

The only honest detail I noticed is the address, which actually belongs to Lloyds. Other than that, it's completely fake.

I’ve gotten a few letters from this company already, three in total. I called them this evening and managed to dodge a bunch of tries where they wanted my bank details. Honestly, why isn’t the police sorting this out? It’s pretty obvious this is a scam.

total scam - they call you up and then want your bank details, saying they need to calculate interest. after that, they hang up and probably nick your money. i didn’t get caught though, checked with lloyds and they confirmed it’s got nothing to do with them. watch out for this one!

I got a letter that looks like it's from Lloyds Bank, but I can't be sure. I used to have a credit card with them over 15 years ago, and now the letter says I might get some kind of refund if I call them. Has anyone else had something like this? Wondering if it's legit or a scam.
