I came across this discussion after receiving a rather similar correspondence regarding an overpayment from an old account of mine that dates back nearly a decade. I can assure you, it’s absolutely not a scam. I dialled the number on the letter (0800 0154873) to get to the bottom of it, and Lloyds confirmed the authenticity of the document using the reference number and account details they provided. They instructed me to pop into a branch to verify my identity with my driving licence and to supply my current bank information. I followed their instructions and made the visit three days ago, and just this morning, a delightful surprise landed in my current account (which isn’t even with Lloyds)-a refund of £2,610.15! So, if you receive a similar letter, don’t dismiss it!

I hadn't even considered my TSB account, which was shut down in 2002, until I received a letter out of the blue. I've spent the last 15 years residing in France and this correspondence took me by surprise! The information they provided turned out to be spot on, and I've ended up with an extra £727 in my pocket. The only hiccup is that they are unable to transfer funds out of the UK directly. However, to my relief, they agreed to channel it into an old cashcard account that I still have, which saved me a lot of trouble. In the end, receiving €1000 is more than worth the inconvenience!

I recently received a letter informing me that I was owed a refund due to an overpayment. After reaching out to Lloyds for clarification, they assured me it was a fraud attempt and advised against sharing any banking information. Be cautious, everyone!

I popped into my local bank today and the staff assured me that the number was genuine, even giving it a ring on my behalf. Once I got back home, I decided to call them up myself and discovered that I’m due £71. Not exactly life-changing, but a lovely little surprise nonetheless! It turns out it was from an old account I had completely forgotten about since 2003! Initially, I was convinced it must be a scam, which is why I chose to visit the branch in the first place.

I can confirm this is the real deal. I rang up Lloyds on their standard number and requested a transfer to their Recoveries department. Once connected, I shared my information with the representatives. It turned out I had an overpayment on a credit card dating back to 1999. After factoring in the interest, they ended up owing me a smidgen over £2000. Quite a pleasant surprise, if I do say so!

I must say, this is the real deal. I had my doubts at first, but after numerous calls to the Lloyds general enquiry line, I discovered that it concerns a letter from their Recoveries team. In my situation, it was linked to a rather ancient TSB bank account. For anyone else who's feeling uncertain about this, I highly recommend giving their main number a ring and requesting to be connected to the recoveries department, or alternatively, pop into your nearest branch for some clarification.

I’ve just got a letter pertaining to the number 08000154873, claiming it’s about a refund. The thing is, I’ve never had an account with Lloyds, so I’m convinced this is a hoax. It’s utterly fraudulent! I cannot stress strongly enough: do NOT, I repeat, do NOT call this number or divulge any of your banking information. Just by calling, they could easily obtain your landline or mobile number. Be cautious, everyone!

Is this number for real? I've seen a bit of a mixed bag in the comments above.

I reached out to them, and they suggested I visit a nearby Lloyds bank. Once there, I had a chat with the accounts manager, who reassured me that everything was above board. She even made a call to them on my behalf and resolved the issue. To top it off, she presented me with a legitimate email from the bank that detailed the payments and correspondence-very reassuring!

Back in 2006, I held a Lloyds credit card and received a letter from them recently. Upon giving them a ring, I discovered that I had overpaid by a whopping £160! Thankfully, I've managed to retrieve my funds. To be honest, I was a bit apprehensive throughout the process, but rest assured, it wasn't a case of fraud.

This is absolutely bonkers! I just shared my thoughts on this too. It's mind-boggling how they were aware of my credit card with Lloyd's back in 2007. What’s even more unsettling is how they got hold of my new address to dispatch that dodgy letter. It's really thrown me for a loop. I've moved all my funds to another account now. What a bunch of sneaky blighters!

I recently popped into the bank and they wanted to confirm if I had settled my credit card via a debt recovery service. I replied in the affirmative. That's how I've ended up with an overpayment. The woman I spoke to claimed everything appeared to be in order. To be frank, it felt like they weren't really bothered since I’m no longer a customer of Lloyds. Their customer service leaves much to be desired!

I’m in a bit of a quandary here. I called them up, and the woman on the line mentioned that they owe me£68. She then placed me on hold to figure out the interest. When I queried why they couldn’t just send a cheque instead of taking my bank details over the phone, she suggested popping into my nearest branch if I had further questions. That’s my plan now! I’ll let you know what the branch has to say once I’ve had a chat with them.

I recently got a letter claiming to be from "Lloyds Bank," urging me to ring this number about a refund. Upon checking, Lloyds informed me that this number is indeed a fraudulent one, and doesn't belong to them at all. To make matters worse, these scammers also reached out to my office line earlier today! It’s quite alarming, really.

I got a letter recently that mentioned a refund was owed to me, but I was a bit sceptical about ringing the number provided. Instead, I decided to contact Lloyds directly. They looked into the matter and confirmed it was indeed legitimate, and I ended up getting my refund. So, don’t dismiss it-just ring your bank directly!

My husband got a letter from Lloyds that featured this number, which raised some eyebrows. To be on the safe side, he rang their customer service using a number straight from their official site rather than the one on the letter. As it turns out, he does have a refund waiting for him. I recommend giving them a bell directly if you think you might be owed some money-definitely worth a shot! Just make sure to use the contact details from their official website, that's my advice!

I suspect the earlier commenter might be complicit in something dodgy. I contacted customer service at Lloyds, and the chap I spoke to was quite accommodating. He checked their number database and confirmed that this particular number isn’t listed at all. Definitely sounds like a scam to me, which is a shame as I could really use a bit of extra cash!

I'm sorry about my earlier comment. While I do agree that it’s definitely a scam, I must admit that the person before me did suggest reaching out to the bank directly-my oversight there. But whatever you do, stear clear of calling the number printed on that letter.

I updated my information when I reached out to them, yet they persistently claimed I was entitled to a refund. Clearly a scam operation. Steer well clear of them!

I've just come across two letters, similar to those mentioned above. They were requesting my bank information, which I did not provide. I'm taking a wild guess that it's a scam!

Just like so many other posts, this one's clearly a con! The Lloyds letterhead is not credible at all. There’s a total absence of any account information - it’s just not believable. The one thing that does seem genuine is the address, which does belong to Lloyds.

I've received a trio of letters from this lot already. I gave them a bell this evening and managed to fend off numerous attempts they made to pry into my bank details. Why on earth aren't the police stepping in? It's obviously a scam!

What a right bother, this whole situation! I received a call from these dodgy folks who wanted my bank account info. They claimed they needed it to calculate some interest. Quite suspect if you ask me! I didn't take the bait, thankfully, as a friend at Lloyds confirmed it's nothing to do with them. Just a heads up, everyone - stay alert and don't get caught out!

I reckon it’s a dodgy scheme. I took the correspondence over to Lloyds, and they verified my suspicions. Just a little reminder: if something seems too marvellous to be genuine, it usually isn’t. Seriously, who in their right mind would overpay their bills?

I've received a rather convincing letter from Lloyds Bank, yet I'm feeling a tad uncertain about its authenticity. I had a credit card with them over 15 years back, and this correspondence claims I'm entitled to a refund and advises me to give them a ring. Has anyone else encountered something similar? What do you reckon I should do?
