Halifax - genuine message, it turns out my credit card was cloned in New York and there were a few tries to spend with it. One payment actually went through but luckily Halifax stopped it and blocked my card. Definitely don’t overlook this!

Got a text saying that my husband’s credit card had some dodgy transactions. We rang the number on the back of the card to check it out. Turns out the card had been used twice for small sums, looks like someone was just trying to test it. Funny enough, we had just got a refund from Ticketmaster and they’d been hacked like not long ago. We almost didn’t bother calling because we thought it might be a scam, but we’re really glad we did.

This is legit. Like others have said here, I got a text about some dodgy activity on my Halifax credit card. I didn’t reply to the message but rang the number on the back of my card instead. They were great and had already stopped the payment for an online purchase. I told them it wasn’t me, so they cancelled the card and are sending a replacement. I reckon my card info was exposed due to a recent major security breach at a big company.

Got a text today saying there was a purchase on my Lloyds Bank Credit Card that I didn’t know about. Was quite worried it could be a scam so I rang the number on the back of my card. Turns out it was legit - my card had been used 6 times in the last few days. I cancelled it straight away and they’re sending me a new one. The people at Lloyds were really helpful. Don’t just dismiss these texts but if you’re worried it might be a scam, call the bank using the number on your card. M

Got a text claiming my card had been used in New York. I've had fraud alerts before, usually for legit payments I made, so they seemed real enough. This time, I replied “No” to say I hadn’t used it. The reply said I’d get a call back or I could ring the number they gave. I used my landline, not my mobile, to call them back. The voicemail said it was fetching my account info but didn’t recognise my number and asked for my mobile instead. That bit seemed plausible since my landline isn’t linked to my account. But there was no mention of fraud or Lloyds bank in the message, which felt fishy. I just hung up without giving any more info. Checked my online banking afterwards and didn’t see any strange activity, so judging by other comments here, looks like it was a phishing attempt.

On the 14th of Jan 2017 at about 9.55 in the morning, I got a text supposedly from Halifax. It said there was some unusual activity on my credit card, mentioning a payment of £25.00 to "wightbrel" through PayPal. The message gave the last four digits of the card, but they were wrong. They wanted me to reply "Yes" or "No" to confirm whether it was me or not. Needless to say, I knew it was a scam straightaway and just deleted the message without replying.

Just to say, the Lloyds bank fraud check is totally legit and pretty quick too. If you get a text and you didn’t authorise the charges, just reply ‘no’... after that they'll either ring you back or give you a number to ring them on 0345 603 1754.
