Got me the same reply after I posted an ad on Gumtree. The weirdest part is they never say what they want to buy! I’m not giving out any bank or Paypal info cause it feels fishy. Anyone know what kind of scam this might be?

Got a message from GUMTREE saying Pamela wants to know if my car’s still available. She asked me to get back to her at [email protected]. Thought I’d share in case anyone else is getting similar messages.

I got a message earlier today from this number, even though I was just chilling at home. It said something like, "Thanks for booking with Hoppers Soho Anuskha. Click here to confirm." Since I live about 50 miles away from any Hoppers, I immediately suspected it was a dodgy message.

Got a message from this number asking me to reply to [email protected]. I sent an email and got this back:

"Thanks for getting back to me. Normally, I’d call but I’m working with the Australian Army Corps and can’t use the phone right now, so I had to reach out online.

I’m planning to buy this as a surprise birthday present for my dad. Can you tell me if there’s any history I should know about? Also, why are you selling it? I’m happy to add an extra $200 to take your listing offline. I’ve spoken to some freights who’ll handle pickup and delivery.

I’m quite busy since I’m an Operating Officer currently on board, without internet banking access or my credit card here. But I can pay via my ANZ account linked to PayPal. Let me know your bank BSB and account or PayPal email so I can make payment and organise the courier to collect and send to NT. Looking forward to your reply."

Pretty obvious this is a scam.

Definitely a scam alert. I'm trying to sell my car on Gumtree and this caller claimed they're working on some oil rig near New Zealand. They started asking for the cheapest price and where I am. Felt super dodgy right from the start. Be careful!

I put up my 2016 VW Golf R-Line diesel on Gumtree here in Australia and got a message asking if it was still available. The reply wanted me to contact them through email only - something like [email protected]. Bit odd, but yeah, that’s what they said.

I put a car up for sale on Gumtree and got a message from this number asking for more details. They kept wanting me to email stuff to some email address. It seemed a bit off, so after a few messages, I decided to check the number online. Turns out, it’s connected to loads of scams. Definitely dodgy!

Seems like they’re back at it once more. Got a couple of rapid-fire texts from different numbers. Deleted them straight away, didn’t click on any links. Same kind of thing as before, really.

Got a few texts from someone called Susan from the 02 Newbury area, and honestly it felt a bit off. Definitely made me suspicious.

Got a text from this number pretending to be a customer service line: "Thanks (random name), one of our advisors will be with you shortly. You can see your place in the queue here." The text includes a suspicious link starting with https://goo.gl/ ?????. If you tap it, it might give hackers access to your passwords or other parts of your phone. Then they send another message saying, "Hi (random name), your advisor (random name) is ready now, the concierge will guide you to (random name advisor)." Definitely don’t respond or follow any of the links, it’s a scam to steal your info. Stay safe!

Got a text from 07860010030 and it sounded like they were working at a restaurant or something. They said, "Hi Matoka, your table should be ready in about half an hour. Please keep your phone nearby for another message." Quite an unusual message to get from this number!

Got a text from 07860010030 saying "Hi Brian, your advisor will be with you shortly. You can check your place in the queue here" with a link attached. I’m pretty sure it’s spam since I’m not called Brian at all. Then another message came through a bit later saying "Hi Brian, your advisor Steve is ready to meet you now, concierge will guide you to Steve." Didn’t click on anything and just deleted both messages!

Got a random text from 07860010030 saying something like “hello marshall, an advisor will be with you in 9 mins. please return to the shop or text back ‘cancel’ if you want to stop. cheers, cirencester”. Didn’t ring or reply, seemed dodgy. Really glad I looked it up here first, feels like a scam or phishing attempt to me. Probably just trying to make money off responses. Deleted it straight away. Proper thankful this site is around to check these things.

I had a really odd call the other day; the person on the other end actually called me by my name. This happened right after I popped into the O2 shop to ask about my bill. Makes me wonder if their system might have some sort of glitch or maybe even got hacked? Feels a bit dodgy to me.

I received exactly those two texts too. One said something like, "Thanks Mr Bewick, an advisor will be with you shortly. Check your place in the queue here https://goo.gl/JDYW84", and the other was "Hi Mr Bewick, your advisor Jake is ready now. The concierge will guide you to Jake." When I clicked the link, it led to a page thanking me for using O2, but the URL was from Qiudini, which seems to be an app for managing queues in shops. Seems like Mr Bewick isn’t aware he’s next up yet!

Today I received a couple of texts from this number, one mentioning a Lenny, which isn’t my name, and a call about someone called Alex being ready for me. It all felt a bit dodgy, so I’ve just deleted the messages, probably a scam.

Got three texts meant for some bloke called Ricky (that’s not me!) saying I was in a queue and had to click a link to check my spot. Then I got two more saying I was about to be served and one more claiming a concierge named Lynn was ready to help. I just binched them all straight away and there’s no way I clicked any links.
