Just got a message yesterday claiming I was in touch with someone who tested positive for Omicron. Curiosity got the better of me, so I clicked on the link, and it ended up guiding me through the entire procedure to book a test. There was no charge involved at any point, and it all looked quite official. I suppose it’s because I was dining out on Sunday evening.

Absolutely, I found myself in a rather similar predicament when I received a text echoing the same message. I was around the £3.99 stage when I saw the warning bells ringing in my mind. Thankfully, I had the sense to hold off on entering my card information before it clicked that it was just a scam claiming I had been in touch with someone infected with the Omicron variant. Quite the close escape, I must say!

My 79-year-old mother just fell victim to this fraudulent message: "NHS: You've been in touch with an individual carrying the Omicron Variant. You need to order a complimentary PCR testing kit here: [link removed]." Given that she had recently been around someone infected with Covid, this threw her into a panic. The site looked quite convincing, mimicking the NHS's layout. I began to input her details, but then they prompted for a £3.99 payment via card or bank transfer, and they also wanted her bank account information. These are truly vile individuals! My poor mum has been thoroughly distressed over this. 😡

It also mentioned a small fee of £1.45 and included a link to pay it, which looked really sketchy to me. The weirdest thing was that this message came through at half past two in the morning!
