About a day after I put in an application for a MBNA credit card, I got a message the next morning supposedly from their Fraud and Disputes department. They wanted me to verify who I was through a link they sent. Being a bit trusting, I clicked it but soon saw it was dodgy when they asked for my passport, driving licence and a picture of me. I didn’t share any of that and just got rid of the message right away.

They rang me on another number first, then called back using MBNA customer service number, how is that allowed? Kept calling again and again after I kept hanging up. Really pushy and convincing. Seemed legit. Obviously a scam, hang up straight away. They had my name, knew my location, said my card was being used miles away. I frozen my cards through the app, deleted all my banking apps just to be safe. Rang MBNA, they told me they never make calls like that. Best to just hang up and switch your phone off.

I got a call from this number on the morning of 25/05/23 around 10 o’clock. Since the number was unfamiliar, I chose not to pick up. My phone has caller ID that usually warns me if it’s spam or some kind of scam. If it’s something important, the caller can just leave a voicemail! Just so you know, I’m based in Scotland.

Spoke to someone claiming to be from MBNA with a proper English accent and seemed to know a bit about me. They said there was some suspicious activity on my card and wanted to verify some transactions. Got two calls from this number - first one was pretending to be NAT WEST saying they’d cancel my card cos it’s been used by someone else! Turns out it’s MBNA trying to scam people into using their services, really sneaky. This is really risky & people pulling these stunts should be called out and taken to court, no doubt.

Got a call from this number claiming to be MBNA security, but right away something felt off. I asked the bloke his name and he said Harvey Cartwright, so I requested he spell it out for me. Then I asked where he was calling from. Out of nowhere, he called me a fat b**** and then just ended the call. Was about to have a bit of fun with him, but no luck. This number is actually MBNA Card Services’ primary contact. I got a text about a new card but the last 4 digits didn’t match anything I knew. Called MBNA and turns out it's legit. They’re just changing the numbers on companion cards linked to the same account for security reasons, apparently Lloyds who took over have this rule. So if one card gets lost or nicked, the other can still be used.

Looks like MBNA is updating their companion cards to have unique numbers for better safety. This way, if one gets lost or stolen, they won’t have to cancel all the cards. Plus, purchases will be tracked separately for the main account holder and the companion cards. Makes sense for added security!
