I can confirm this number is genuine. When I rang HSBC about it, they said they hadn’t contacted me at all. Just so you know, the HSBC_UK Twitter account did verify the number. My card got blocked and the only way to lift the hold was to give them a call, so yes, it’s definitely real.

I phoned HSBC directly to check and they told me it definitely wasn’t them contacting me. Turns out, it was a total scam trying to fool me.

I got a call from what seemed to be a proper HSBC UK fraud team number. It wasn’t just random; I actually received it from a live chat agent within the HSBC UK app. They told me to get in touch because there was some odd activity on my account involving an Amazon purchase from abroad, and they wanted to check if I was the one who made those unusual transactions.

Not long ago, I got a phone call at work from the number listed here, with the caller purporting to be from HSBC's payments division. To be honest, I was somewhat sceptical about whether the call was genuine. However, I decided to be thorough and spoke to my branch manager to verify things. To my relief, they confirmed that the call was actually on the level and that the number does belong to the legitimate HSBC payments team.

Have a look at the comments below!! There's a clear difference between a scam number and a spoofed number. Scam numbers tend to be fake, often generated by computers. Spoofed numbers, on the other hand, are real business numbers that scammers copy to trick people into giving away their bank details. Spoofed numbers, especially ones pretending to be from banks, are extremely risky. I've shared some tips below on how to spot and avoid calls from spoofed bank numbers (these are the worst kind). Also, don’t forget to check the banner at the top of the page for more info.

If you ring your bank to see if a call you got is legit (like the post below), the call centre team can tell if the bank is actually trying to reach you and can put you through to the right people or sort it out. But they might not know every single number the bank uses. Even if the call centre says it’s a scam, that doesn't always mean the number itself is dodgy. Spoofed numbers, using real business lines, are a big issue for companies and their clients. So is the call real or fake? No one really knows! Best thing - CHECK WITH YOUR BANK!

Got a call yesterday saying a direct debit was arranged with Sky and Virgin. When I rang back the bank told me it was a con! They called again today and when I mentioned I knew it was dodgy, the caller told me to verify the number on HSBC’s website. They asked for my sort code and account details. I ended the call and reported it straight away! Always call your bank back yourself and never give out your info. Nearly got tricked!

Got a call saying there was some dodgy activity on my account from HSBC. The caller hung up, so I rang HSBC myself. Then they said that number was legit and I should call it back. 🤯 When I rang back, they asked for my sort code and account number. They wouldn’t give me any details, so I ended the call - just felt fishy.

This number is used by scammers, be careful. Never share any personal info when someone calls you out of the blue asking to "verify" who you are. If you're the one ringing your bank, then yeah they need to check it's really you. But with random callers? No way.

Total scam. They said they were from HSBC after I answered a text about a missed Evri parcel. Got a proper call from HSBC later warning me these fraudsters use this trick. Best thing is to just ignore and block them.

Sounded like a scam for sure. They claimed to be from Santander and wanted my postcode right away. Said there were 2 blocked transactions on my account. Seemed legit at first, but after looking up the number online, it all felt a bit dodgy.

This was definitely a scam using a fake HSBC number. They sounded really believable, telling me about two payments blocked by security just a bit ago, then asked for more details like my postcode. They even knew the last four digits of my card, so somehow they had both my phone and card info. I got a bit wary and asked them to wait while I looked up the number, then they just dropped the call. I rang HSBC afterwards and they said no payments were blocked or anything. Really convincing trick, watch out for it.

This number is actually one of the several that HSBC uses. Just be cautious and think it through. Have a look at the red warning post below - it pretty much explains everything. Remember, this number itself isn’t a scam, but there’s always a chance the person calling isn’t legit.

If you check the banner at the very top of the page, you'll find this number is listed as an official HSBC contact. That said, you should stay alert because scammers often fake legit bank numbers by cloning them to trick folks. Also, scammers sometimes post fake scam alerts about real bank fraud numbers so that when people look up unfamiliar numbers here, they end up blocking the genuine ones. There's plenty of tips and advice on what to do if your bank gets in touch, all shared in the posts on this site.

If you’re an HSBC customer, don’t just block or dismiss calls from this number straight away. It might be a legitimate call. You really can’t be 100% sure who’s on the other end. Scammers have been known to copy phone numbers from banks and then flood sites like this with false scam alerts to trick folks into ignoring real bank warnings. If your bank rings you, hang up, make sure the line’s cleared, then ring your bank back using the phone number on your card. Don’t wait too long, as it could be an important call about your account.

They already had my name and last 4 digits of my card, so I guess my info got leaked from some shop or online purchase. They said they could do an online security upgrade right then and there, but no thanks.

Got a call from someone claiming to be HSBC and they were complete fraudsters. They wanted my sort code and account details. They told me there was a £260 charge at Argos and £500 at Mercedes. Plus, they asked if they could set up my Apple Pay, which seemed really dodgy. Thankfully, I just listened because they didn’t ask any of the usual security questions HSBC normally does. HSBC would never ask an older person to give access to their Apple Pay. The moment I challenged them, they just hung up.

Fraud Alert! I received a phone call from a supposed HSBC fraud department representative claiming that there were two suspicious online transactions made on my account with John Lewis and Argos. Naturally, I denied making those transactions. The caller, who identified herself as Amy, assured me that their fraud team had already intercepted those transactions. To "verify" my identity, she requested that I participate in their security phrase, "my voice is my password." I complied and then, to ensure legitimacy, I asked Amy for details about a recent credit on my credit card. Suddenly, the call disconnected. Feeling uneasy, I reached out to HSBC’s fraud team directly, only to discover that they had never contacted me. In a state of alarm, I attempted to access my mobile banking app, only to be greeted with the shocking message: "Your mobile banking has been disabled as it is now logged in on another device!" I quickly called HSBC again, my heart racing, and reset my password. Moments later, I received a text code from the very same number that had attempted to deceive me earlier. I changed my password and requested that the bank notes my case in their records. What I suspect happened is quite alarming-this “Amy” wasn’t truly from HSBC; instead, she likely recorded my voice for her accomplice to access my online banking. They could have easily called the bank to change my password, and if I’d shared that text code with them, they would’ve been able to gain complete control over my mobile banking. It sends shivers down my spine to think of the possible consequences! Please, if you receive any calls from this number, refrain from engaging and contact your bank directly! Stay cautious!

***SCAM ALERT*** So, I’ve got a banking account with HSBC and I received a rather dodgy phone call today. A chap claimed to represent the fraud team, insisting they’d spotted some odd transactions on my account. Apparently, there was a charge of £37 at a Staples in Cardiff-trouble is, I’m nowhere near Cardiff and my card is right here with me. He proceeded to request my personal identification number (not the sort code or account number, mind you) to verify my identity. At that point, I thought, “How can I be sure you’re actually from HSBC?” He then had the audacity to suggest I look up ‘hsbc card fraud detection number’ on Google, and, wouldn't you know it, the phone number he was using was listed. Curiosity got the better of me, so I clicked on the link... It appeared to be HSBC’s official page-suspicious, right? He then quizzed me on whether I still had my card-I confirmed that I did. He asked if I’d shared my card details with anyone, which I hadn’t. He also inquired if I had responded to any phishing attempts, like the HMRC scam claiming I owed cash. Again, I hadn’t. When I pressed him for proof of his identity, asking him to confirm any recent transactions, he dropped the bombshell that he couldn’t divulge any specific information due to 'banking regulations'. Not exactly reassuring, is it? I took his name down, though I’m pretty sure it was a made-up one. He insisted that he hadn’t asked for my account number or sort code, just my personal ID number, and assured me that I could find the fraud number online. Despite my unease, I cautiously gave him the number. He then wanted me to access my online banking-not to log in, mind you, but merely to go to the personal ID section. When I complied, he switched gears, requesting that I use my mobile banking app to create a secure key code for him. Come off it! To top it all off, he asked for the name of my first school. Clearly, he was angling to bypass my security questions since I'd already shared my ID number. It dawned on me that this bloke was attempting to pry into my account whilst I was chatting with him. What a crafty little con artist! Being as polite as possible, I made it abundantly clear that I wasn’t comfortable with any of this and would be reaching out to HSBC through their official channels. Spoiler alert: they weren't calling me, and there were no dubious transactions on my account. I've reported the whole episode to HSBC...

I just received a call from this number roughly 15 minutes ago. The individual on the line claimed to be from the HSBC online fraud division, and told me there were three dubious charges linked to my Amazon account - one for £250, another for £100, and the last one for £50. They requested that I confirm I hadn’t authorised these transactions. I told them that I didn’t recognise any of them. Next, they insisted that I produce a security code in order for them to abort the payment attempts. Straight away, I thought it was odd. If they truly represented HSBC, wouldn’t they have the capability to access my account directly from their end? I flat out refused to provide the code and ended the call. If they were genuinely who they claimed to be, I doubt anyone would be concerned about such security protocols. Best, Carl Whiting

I received a call from someone purporting to be with the HSBC Fraud Team, informing me of suspicious activity on my bank account. They requested that I divulge some security information. When I raised my concerns, they suggested that I could verify their number on Google. After hanging up, I contacted my bank, who swiftly halted all online transactions, although they felt it unnecessary to block my debit card at that point. Three days later, the same caller rang again, but recognising the number, I chose not to engage and mentioned I would consult my bank. Upon following up, I was reassured that my account remained secure, so I awaited a new secure key. Fast forward two days, after activating the key, I discovered some transactions had occurred in Dubai using my card! The bank promptly blocked the card and refunded my funds, so it seems everything is resolved for now. Just a word of caution to everyone-THIS IS DEFINITELY A SCAM!

Im gonna say it again, this number is legit when you ring it. But be very careful if you get called by them coz these scammers have managed to take control of your phone line. Even if you take your visa card and try calling the bank on the number at the back, the call can still be rerouted to the fraudsters. A mate from work went through hell after these con artists conned him out of 40,000 pounds. He followed all the right steps, saying he would ring back. The big mistake? He used the same phone to call the bank, so the scammers were still able to intercept the call.

I’ll keep saying this over and over - yes, this number is real, but getting a call from it isn’t safe at all. The scammers have somehow taken control of your phone line. Even if you pull out your Visa card and ring the number on the back, the call might still be routed to these fraudsters. A mate of mine had a nightmare situation where these crooks tricked him out of £40,000. He tried to do the right thing by saying he’d call back later, but his big error was using the same phone to ring the bank to confirm if the number he saw was genuine.

Those scammers must be having a good laugh since they tricked him. Seriously, someone needs to block this number ASAP before more folks end up getting ripped off. I'll say it one more time, this number is genuine when you ring it. But it's not very safe if you get a call from it because scammers have taken control of your phone line. Even if you grab your own visa card from your wallet and phone the number on the back, they can still redirect your call to the fraudsters. A mate from work went through a nightmare with this and lost £40,000. He did what he thought was right by telling the scammers he'd call back, but his biggest error was using the same phone to ring his bank to check if the number was legit.
