Got a call pretty much the same as others mentioned here. I couldn’t figure out what they actually wanted, just left me feeling like it might be some sort of hassle or bother. I’ll just keep an eye out and see if anything else comes up. I know HMRC wouldn’t get in touch like this over the phone or email. Not really sure who else to report it to apart from the police fraud team.

I got a call from someone claiming to be from HMRC, saying there was a fraud case opened against me. They warned me that if I didn’t press 1, they'd send a warrant to arrest me immediately. I thought it was dodgy but pressed 1 just to see who’d pick up, since they didn’t bother asking for any ID or security questions. A guy with an American accent answered, then the line just went dead. Told my accountant about it right away, and then I came across this on the internet.

Got a call supposedly from HMRC last year, so I rang them up to check. They told me straight away it was a con and that they never make calls like that. Definitely a scam, and if you try to ring back, the call just ends. Best to just block the number.
