They threatened me that if I didn’t tell them my name, they’d report me to an officer with an arrest warrant! I seriously doubt HMRC would behave like this. Don’t share any personal info with these people - classic scam call!

Got calls saying there’s a tax fraud issue with my name, and if I didn’t press 1 to talk to them, they’d apparently issue an arrest warrant. They’ve left me about five voicemails now. Best to just block and not pick up at all.

I got a call saying there was some sort of fraud case against me. When I questioned the caller, he started threatening that all my bank accounts would be closed right away, my money would be frozen, and the police would show up at my place to arrest me and take my passport. He got really rude and then just ended the call abruptly.

Some woman rang up saying she was from Her Majesty's office and is after me for unpaid tax! This is a classic scam involving bank accounts and credit cards where fraudsters, often from India, try to frighten you into thinking you owe the government tax. They claim the police will show up at your place within the hour unless you pay immediately over the phone! Definitely just a scam.

I picked up a call that seemed like the usual HMRC scam. Been through a couple of these before so I was pretty sure it was bogus. Decided to press 1 just out of curiosity. Ended up speaking to an Asian woman who was really rude and aggressive. As soon as I asked what the call was about, she just hung up on me. Classic HMRC scam, no doubt about it.

Got a call from 03453003944, an automated voice claiming to be HMRC. They said if I didn’t press 1, the police would come to arrest me for tax evasion. I knew straight away it was a scam, especially since my daughter-in-law had exactly the same call a couple weeks back, and the person on the line got pretty rude. It’s awful how these scammers cause so much stress, they really should be tracked down and dealt with properly, though I guess that’s easier said than done.

I received a call that was supposedly from HMRC. Instead of the usual automated response, when I rang them back, they insisted they needed my National Insurance number before they could verify whether the call was genuinely from them or not! Just a bit of advice: this is definitely a SCAM. HMRC doesn’t call you; they send letters. After looking into it further, I discovered that the callers were issuing threats of arrest through a pre-recorded message. To the best of my knowledge, HMRC doesn’t utilise recorded messages to threaten anyone with arrest, so I strongly advise you to refrain from sharing any personal information.

I saw posts yesterday about some criminal group in India using VoIP to ring people. The numbers they show on your caller ID are all fake and spoofed. HMRC doesn’t phone you - they only get in touch by letter or email, never calls. Just hang up and block 1572, don’t press any options like 1. These scammers keep switching numbers every day, and this has been going on for about 8 months now. I read about it in both the Daily Mail and Daily Express back in March. FYI, HMRC offices are closed on Saturdays so no one’s calling you then! It’s all a complete scam.

I shared my experience on a few platforms yesterday morning, and reflecting on the responses I received, I now wish I'd posted it here sooner. It's rather disheartening to see some folks question why anyone would fall for such a ruse. These scammers are clever; they've managed to spoof a proper HMRC number to extract personal information from unsuspecting individuals. I initially received an automated call stating there was suspicious activity linked to my account and urged me to press 1 to connect with an officer. I decided to hang up, but later found out it was indeed a genuine HMRC number! After calling back, I had a chat with someone from HMRC who confirmed that fraudsters are misappropriating their number for illicit gain. It's crucial to remain cautious and refrain from sharing any personal details. - Caller: Posing as HMRC

Saw a piece in the Daily Mail saying MPs have been on this scam ages, brought up again and again in the Commons. Caller ID means nothing nowadays, it tricks you into thinking it’s the number shown but it’s really just some dodgy VoIP call. Nothing's being done about it, just lots of talking no action against the fraudsters.

Blocking these scammers is pointless since they just keep ringing from hundreds of different numbers every single day. I’ve heard that the UK cops team up with police abroad to try and take down these phone scam gangs, but for that to happen everyone needs to report the calls. Meanwhile, people who are vulnerable either end up losing their money or get really stressed out by all the nuisance calls. So just ignoring the problem really isn’t the solution.

Beware of fraudsters who imitate legit government and company phone numbers to trick people. They often target numbers related to tax, banks, and online delivery firms like amazon or dhl. Beware, everyone! I just had a rather dodgy encounter with someone claiming to be from HMRC. They used what appeared to be an official HMRC number to reach out. An automated voice informed me of supposed fraudulent activity linked to my account and prompted me to press 1 to connect with a representative. I thought better of it and terminated the call.
