I got a call from this number too, it was a recorded message with a guy’s voice. He said he was from the ATO about some tax problems I had. He told me not to ignore the call and to ring back this number or else the ATO would take legal action against me. Total scam, be careful!

Hey there. I just wanted to say I got a call like that too, about some tax fraud thing and the cops supposedly coming round. It was a guy speaking with an Indian accent and left a message on my voicemail.

I got a call from a woman with a strong accent, sounding really pushy and accusing me of fraud, even threatening to send the police if I didn’t hit her back. It freaked me out, so I contacted the ATO straight away. They gave me a reference number and said they’re looking into it now.

Got a call from a Private number today, been ringing a few times already. I use caller ID and they left a message - the person sounded quite pushy and had a strong NESB accent. Does anyone know who we can report this scam to? This kind of thing could really worry or stress out folks who aren’t prepared for it.

Around 6.30 pm on 03/05/16, I got a call claiming I was involved in some kind of tax fraud and warning that the police would be sent to arrest me if I didn’t respond. Thinking it was a scam, I called the number back, expecting it to be blocked or anonymous, but a man with an Indian accent answered, saying he was a tax official and would ring me back in ten minutes. Naturally, he never did.
The call felt very much like others reported here on this site. My wife answered and was quite distressed by the whole thing; it took a good while before she calmed down. I can imagine this sort of scare could be really damaging to elderly or vulnerable people, maybe even triggering serious health problems.
Only someone completely twisted and without empathy would come up with such a cruel scheme, with zero care for those they frighten. I’m honestly shocked the number hasn’t been deactivated yet - it’s amazing they’re still operating at all.

I got a call like that too, from a woman who sounded really pushy. She never asked for anyone specifically, just kept talking about some tax fraud issue and warned me not to hang up because apparently the police would come and arrest me. She kept saying it was urgent and important. So, I phoned the tax office myself, and they told me they never make threats about police or arrests in calls like that. Definitely sounded like a scam to me!

Today I finally got around to listening to a voicemail I had from a while ago. Right away, it was obvious it was a scam. Nobody from the ATO would ever sound so pushy or over the top in a message like that.

Got a couple of calls today, one at about 9.20 in the morning and another around 2.30 in the afternoon. It was a woman, maybe of Indian background, talking like she was from the ATO. She accused me of tax fraud but didn’t let me say a thing or ask anything. Not happy at all about those calls.

Yesterday, my elderly mum got a call just like this one. They left a message on her answering machine using that same threatening 'script'. It was some aggressive Indian guy talking about tax fraud and fake lawsuits, saying she should take it seriously or the police would come to arrest her. I work at the ATO and honestly, this is nowhere near how we do things, so from the start I knew it was a scam. If you get these calls, please make sure you report them. The ATO relies on people letting them know so they can deal with these fraudsters.

Got a call from someone with an indian accent, really abrupt, telling me about some tax scam and that I'd be arrested. They wanted our phone number too, which seemed odd.

Twice today they phoned me and left identical messages! I decided to call back and wow, they were so rude and pushy! They’re demanding $9,000 from me or they’ll take legal steps! Can you believe that? Seems totally illegal to me. Honestly, someone should really take legal action against them first!

My answering machine picked up a call from a woman who sounded like she might have an African accent. She was pretty sharp and claimed there was some kind of legal action against me for tax evasion from the ATO. She kept saying if I didn’t ring 03 41000116 right away, the police would come and arrest me. I find it odd, as I always use an accountant who’d definitely get notified of any audit first, and they’d send me letters before the cops showed up. This definitely feels like a scam to me, though a rather pushy one at that.

I got a call from them too, and when I rang back, some guy picked up saying "hello, ATO here." He claimed there was a fraud case against me and wanted to talk it through. They had a strong Nigerian accent. I asked to speak to his manager but he wouldn't let me. Then I told him something felt fishy about the whole thing and he just cut me off. Bit of a strange call!

Today, on 27th April 2016, I got a call from a woman who told me I'd been reported to the Australian Tax Office for tax fraud. She warned that if I didn’t call back on 0341000116, the police would be sent to me. Quite a scary call really.

Today, April 26th 2016, I got a call from a bloke claiming I'd been flagged by the Australian Taxation Office for tax fraud. He told me that the police would be getting in touch soon and told me to call him back on 0341000116 to discuss it. Felt a bit dodgy if you ask me.
