About Statute barred debts - in England and Wales it's 6 years but in Scotland it's just 5. Also, if you shift to Scotland from England, the time limit for your old debts shortens to 5 years from when you start living there. And for Council Tax debts it's different, you gotta keep all paperwork cos it lasts 20 years. I had this £14 charge from a Council Tax debt over 8 years old that I never got any letters about, they only found out when I changed address.

FYI, if a debt is over six years old, it’s considered “Statute Barred”, meaning it can’t legally be collected anymore. After six years, the creditor’s time to demand payment has run out. This is all covered under the Limitation Act 1980. If you want more info about Statute Barred debts, just have a quick look on Google and you’ll find plenty of explanations.
