Got a letter today saying we owed £5,008.33 for an unpaid bill - total shock! We always use direct debit and never miss payments. The phone number was just one digit off from EDF’s actual number. The letter and envelope looked proper, nearly had me fooled. Watch out for this kind of scam!

I got a call from someone pretending to be EDF and they tried to get me to share my login details under the pretence of helping with an enquiry. IT'S DEFINITELY A SCAM!! The sneaky part is the phone number they used is nearly identical to EDF’s real number, and they even knew I was waiting for a genuine call from EDF. SO PLEASE BE CAUTIOUS IF YOU SEE THIS NUMBER AND DON’T GIVE ANY INFO TO ANYONE CALLING FROM IT. Also, if you ring back, there’s a message that claims it’s EDF.

Got a letter from EDF saying they took over my account after Green Energy shut down. It claimed I owed £561.01 from Jan 2021 and said I had to pay within 14 days. The letter seemed dodgy and only gave the number 03332005108 for payment. I can’t see any legit firm hanging about for over a year and a half if someone was behind on payments.

Got a letter from EDF claiming I owe £86.81 from when Green Energy stopped supply. They said if I didn’t pay in 14 days, they would send someone else to get the money. The letter seemed pretty real, but I remembered when switching providers, they always want you to clear or carry over any outstanding amounts first.

I can see why folks might think this is dodgy - when I finally got through, the lady on the line had an accent I struggled to understand. In the end I paid, but my tip would be to double-check the number with EDF before doing anything. If you can't verify it, just ignore the message. I also don't pick up calls from numbers I don’t know, just to be safe.

I accidentally paid £304 for an overdue bill from 2018. It felt a bit sketchy, so I checked online and saw quite a few warnings about scams. It hit me that something was off because I made the payment on a Saturday. Then when I tried ringing EDF on their real number, it said they only operate Mon to Fri, 8am to 8pm. So how did they even manage to take money on a Saturday? Proper annoyed right now.

03332005108 - I’d advise you to just ignore this number straight away. When it called me, there was a recorded message saying my internet would be cut off and to press 1 for more info. I pressed it, but then noticed it appeared as an international call, which made me suspicious it was a scam. After pressing 1, I was charged 77p on my phone bill. Just a heads up to be careful with this one!
