Just had a smart gas metre put in by EDF, and this number is legit. They do install gas metres now, not just electric ones. My new gas metre is in ‘dumb’ mode since they don’t fit the older types anymore. Basically, if your metre’s faulty or you need a replacement, it has to be a smart one, but you can choose to keep it in dumb mode so they can't mess with it remotely. If you check EDF’s website, you’ll see this number is definitely genuine.

Got a text saying "EDF need to come and swap my gas meter". Thing is, EDF don't handle gas meters - the gas supply company do. Mine was replaced not long ago anyway. I reckon this might be about smart meters but it doesn’t say outright. The number to book an appointment was included, but I’m going to just ignore it. Usually, they email me if anything's going on, so this feels a bit dodgy.

I picked up and there was nothing but quiet on the other end. It might have been the energy company, EdF, since I've got a slot booked for a smart meter installation soon. Their contact lines are quite similar but differ by a digit or two, like a 0 or an 8 instead of a 4.
